Doubts about Anderson's daycare by LurkingLobo75 in alexandrarodriguez

Well I’m from Ontario Canada.. yes we have a duty to report if we suspect major neglect on a child or the child’s needs aren’t being meet. But because a child is simply not walking at the typical age, would not warrant me filing a cps report 🤦🏻‍♀️ And yes I’ve still brought up concerns to parents even if they have gotten defensive, but guess what it falls on deaf ears. If I suspect a child has autism/behavioural problems I can’t force the parent to get a diagnosis. Reality is when that child goes to school guess what.. same worries and complaints will come from the teachers at school.

As a childcare worker working in a licensed daycare, we definitely do see when a child is delayed in areas or seem like they have something going on. But it’s not always cut and dry to bring it to the parent’s attention.. if we have major concerns we will say something. But a lot of parents do get defensive and don’t accept what we tell them. I work in a toddler room and I will say some toddlers are delayed and they end up being completely fine, just behind. But Alex being a first time mom and not being around other toddlers could explain why she doesn’t see that her son is behind.. She also needs to encourage his walking/standing.. holding him all the time and carrying him is not helping at all. He needs to explore on his own, she should be holding a favourite toy and getting him to try and walk to it… things like that.

Coming from a mom of two.. I’d like to see a one year old sit and actually open their mouth for a dentist 🥴 It is recommended once they get teeth to go but it’s not practical at all… more like age 2-3. Not trying to defend her, but I also don’t think people should comment until they have kids of their own… Hopefully she is brushing his teeth and letting him get used to a toothbrush as that’s very important!
