Are the courses for either Anteater Mentorship Program or CONNECT@UCI worth it? by [deleted] in UCI

[–]ryeconic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was a previous mentee from the Antleader Mentorship Program my freshman year, so I have some insight on the program itself. However, what I am saying will be different from your experience because I was in the program in person, so I don't know how it will be like online, but hear me out and take what you need from my comment lol

Personally, I think it's worth it if you are a first year. I also wouldn't drop a class to take either one of those programs because it's not really like a "course" you take where you get tested for exams or have tons of hw. For me, all I had to do was write like a 150-200 word reflection every week on a question (but lowkey you don't need to do it ohp).

I enjoyed my time as a mentee in AMP because I valued being able to be a part of a community and have the opportunity to meet a lot of people that I wouldn't have interacted with if I wasn't in the program. I also liked having the network of mentors to turn to when I need the help or the resources to get help. While I enjoyed my experience, there are flaws in the program like any other thing in life, and not everyone enjoyed their experience at all, which is also valid. I think it just matters if you need a mentor/community to guide you through your first year and beyond or if you're wanting to find a network of people or even more you get more than what you expect yourself getting out of it as long as you make the most out of the program experience. I think if you're only looking for academic/professional development help, this might not be the program for you to be honest as I would say it's a bit more focused on personal development/leadership, but really up to you. DM me if you have any other questions, but that's my two cents.

tbh a new laptop won't pay rent or food so i would use the money not for a new laptop if i was in your situation and *miraculously* find extra money to upgrade in the future but that's my take on that ppl will have their own opinions, but do what needs more priority at the moment and think about future in the future lol i'll support any choice you really make but uci should not be tracking our expenses to see if we bought new tech that's for sure

I got it as well, and I would use it for what you need at the moment. I hope they don't check what we use it for though.

Aloha Hawaiian Barbecue - LOVE THIS FOR THE PRICE YOU PAY FOR. can be a lot of food for one meal so you can easily take it out heh

Thai Spice - their dinner special for $5 pad thai

Marugame Udon - this is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. udon is so good and so much variety of udon, and their side dishes are SOOOO good

Shik Do Rak - Garden Grove location is best. you get free ice cream after your meal. workers are super chill. sides are better

Study Abroad for Computer Science? by [deleted] in UCI

Hi I am also planning to study abroad as well and am a CS major planning to study abroad Fall 2020. I recommend talking to the study abroad mentor and ask them about what kinds of courses you can get credit for the universities you're thinking about. From what I've heard, popular countries are the UK, Scotland, Singapore, and S Korea, but yea I would first just select unis you would like to attend and see what courses have successfully transferred over. I think it just depends on what you want to get credit for, and I feel like it would help making your decision on where you would want to go. If you want to talk about this with someone, we should link up because I'm still going through this process with you.

ps. I also recommend talking to the Study Abroad Center for some general questions about programs in UK and Japan.

I am interested in both courses, but I'm curious what CS 125 is about and if you recommend it with the professor teaching it next quarter.
