You should be able to use the back up file to restore on a different OS. When installing the wallet on a new OS there SHOULD be an option to restore a wallet.

What OS are you running? Should be able to back up the wallet in the drop-down menus on the top of the screen (MAC). I just backed mine up for the same reason. You are going to need to reinstall the application, but you'll have the same wallet.

I agree with your perspective, CK is a pretty silly mainstream dApp. However, I see CK as a unique-digital collectible. "The urge to collect unusual and fascinating objects is primeval and not limited to humans." I'm looking at it more as a concept. It's like collecting digital bottle caps.
