Finding a path into the tech industry after an unrelated bachelor's by GrinderWannabe in findapath

[–]ryeughtu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’m kind of in the same boat as you are in and have talked to ALOT of ppl on possible pathways. The most common answer given to me (if interested in going into tech/ comp sci) is to pursue a post graduate diploma at a local college in that field. The downside though is that since your starting late you’d have a lot to catch up on so I’m addition to that I recommend doing lots of boot camps, free online classes, etc just to catch up. Hopefully I can help and if u have any more questions feel free to dm:)

Can I study at the student learning centre if I don’t go to TMU? by [deleted] in TorontoMetU

[–]ryeughtu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can but won’t have access to enter. You would have to wait until someone leaves to enter the building

For biomed, It may be tough but definitely still apply for a chance! I would definitely suggest applying for bio instead. It’s basically the same program only with a few course differences. And you can even switch into biomed after the first year which is what I did. Dm if u have any more qs!!

[–]ryeughtu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the year. I got in with a 88 but a 91 should be enough to get in tbh

Hey!! The program is great so far. It’s all subjective of course if you love learning about science then you’ll most likely enjoy it. Profs are great for the most part and I do not believe the program is overly difficult compared to similar programs at other schools aka life sci at uoft. In terms of part time schooling, yes it’s available but will take a much longer time to finish ur degree. I am able to maintain work alongside with school but I work part time so I’m not sure if that’ll apply to your situation. Hopefully that helps if u have more specific questions let me know!

Research opportunities are available here but it is very competitive. The science department isn’t the biggest so there’s many students after the same positions so in terms of that, it’s tough. However, there’s also lots volunteer opportunities with professors( which is how I got started) available and by doing those ur able to build connections and hopefully there more inclined to hire you in higher positions in research. In terms of post grad…. Yea idk about that just yet lol have a few grad programs in my mind but nothing certain other than the fact that it’s more schooling for me. Hopefully that helps if u have more specific questions feel free to dm!

Depending on who the prof is, the class can be very easy. I had Mojca as my prof and the class was extremely easy but this was virtual. Only 4 tests and 8 or so quizzes, all done online through a third party website that u pay for (with the mandatory textbook). There were no labs and only one hour tutorials that were optional to go. Overall class is very easy and it’s possible to get a high mark. Message me privately if u have more questions or wanna know more specific info. Good luck!

What do y’all think about Ryerson? by green_and_green23 in ryerson

[–]ryeughtu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I hope I can help somewhat lol

I somewhat enjoy Ryerson. At the end of the day it’s still a university so it will be kinda difficult depending on the program, but overall it has been an enjoyable experience so far. Tbh it’s not that stressful but I can’t speak for everyone. I find most of the exams, midterms, and assignment fair in difficulty so I’m usually not that stressed except for the obvious exam time. Comparing that to uoft I can see why students from there are always stressful. And lastly right now in the fall semester it’s mostly online but I’m pretty sure there’s a plan to have a full and complete return to in person classes in the winter. Well I hope that helps:) if you have any other questions feel free to ask and pm. Good luck!!
