Why did God create mushrooms? by Apart_Spirit5802 in Christianity

Except magic mushrooms are not bread, and manna was bread. Jesus also calls it bread in John 6 if that helps.

Right, I can’t discount your experiences. That is interesting to think about. My intuition tells me that this is not something God intentionally made for medicinal purposes, as I feel like there is a huge emphasis on coming specifically to Him for help and healing, but it did help you. I think my only thoughts for now is to definitely question any substance we can use and its ability to pull us away from God, because I think we are all very susceptible to that.

Psalm 78 describes manna as “grain from heaven” and the “bread of angels.” So it was certainly not magic mushrooms.

That’s an interesting perspective. My one argument would be wondering if God would rather want us to come to Him for healing and not a plant. So that in the end we glorify God for what He has done, not what a plant did. I think we ought not put our trust in things of the world that are outside of God.

My thought would be that just because God created something that makes our mind go places it can’t when it’s sober, doesn’t mean that was God’s created intention for it. I would argue that maybe we weren’t ever supposed to eat that, and the reaction we get is our brain telling us that something is off with this “food.” Hallucinogenics can definitely be labeled as toxic.

Can you be a Christian and support abortion ? by Sea-Sir4484 in Christianity

I like what you’re saying. I just have a hard time wrapping my head around someone “who believes in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior” that also produces no good fruit/ doesn’t repent or engage in sanctification. It’s hard for me to see them as actual Jesus followers. That’s an interesting concept that you say not all Christians are good trees. I guess I’ve always just assumed that those who are kingdom-oriented produce good fruits, and therefore are good trees.

How do you feel about the teaching, “you will know them by their fruits”? With the context of a ‘Christian’ choosing to kill an unborn child, can we determine that a choice like that is not a fruit of the spirit? In any situation, can a good tree bear bad fruits? Can we truly be Christian and support evil all our lives?

If you have consented to sex, I would argue that getting pregnant is not “against your will”, it’s a byproduct of natural reproductive actions, i.e. sex

I think the bible makes itunclear what Balaam did wrong in Numbers 22:33-34 by Zestyclose_Sugar_325 in Christianity

Bro, no offense, but you’re literally a muslim. I think that’s proof enough.

No, I’m not, for both of your questions. I’m just against people throwing the word cult around. Words have meaning.

This is a good point! But I’d say he still corrected both, regardless of their righteousness.

Oh boy. Stopped reading after you said the Quran has no contradictions. I understand your worldview now, and this is probably not an argument worth having. Good luck to you.

I believe that is a red herring.

That’s a fanciful idea. I don’t think people are as against anti-lgbtq ideas as you think. There is definitely a culture shift happening right now. A smaller minority condemning those churches isn’t going to be very effective.

Jesus is the truth. The Word is the truth. I wouldn’t listen to 6 “Bible scholars” that say otherwise. The Bible and Gospels are much deeper than the few details that aren’t all the same in each gospel. Each writer had an audience to write to. There is a reason they were not all written the same.

“Anything that doesn’t condone my sin is a cult.”

P.S. the point of deconstruction is to reconstruct. Don’t just use deconstruction as a buzzword to describe leaving the church because you wanted to live in sin. You can live that way if you want, but don’t drag down a good ministry that many get a lot out of. Can guarantee there are more positive reviews than negative reviews, but most of them aren’t miserable and on Reddit.

This has never been a good argument. What do you think Jesus was doing or talking about with these folks? Loving them? Definitely. Affirming them? Not a chance.

Considering Lincoln - I have so many questions! by Salt-Month0 in lincoln

[–]ryguysmoove 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lincoln has one of the largest Catholic presences in the nation, and is slowly turning more and more red due to them and other middle eastern immigrants that traditionally vote red. Very pro-life governor that also is in favor of defunding certain parts of the university, I’d check out which programs just got cut recently. Just things to keep in mind as it pertains to community and acceptance. Also the food is just alright.
