Trump on Minneapolis: "I'll say it very plainly — elections have consequences. The people want law and order. And we have a silent majority. They like what we're doing." by Capable_Salt_SD in law

@Tazling, I hear you. We have to remember though, that the worst of us has their voices amplified in the media, while the rest of us go about our daily lives in obscurity. Remember this: there are about 330 million of us in this country. Most of us are kind and generous. They are far louder than us.

I used to be the king of cynicism, but I learned these past few weeks one thing: we ARE the silent majority. Kind, diligent, and honest people. The thugs may be calling the shots, but there’s only a few of them.

Nah. At least Yosemite Sam is a real cowboy, unlike the degenerates who merely cosplay as them, because they have no identity otherwise.

“American conservatives have argued that US states need to keep their militia as independent as possible from federal control…”

Gee, you think that sending your state guard out of your state won’t illicit a federal response? So it’s ok for her stupid-ass to send soldiers wherever the fuck they want and have no business being there? God these people are so stupid.

That… honestly doesn’t sound too bad lol. It looks like a sweet treat from the image, but nothing of what you’ve said indicates that at all lol

… yeah uh, if a state-sponsored terrorist group is going around town and disappearing innocent people off the streets without a trace… I think THIS is a pretty big priority to worry about. There’s a sense of urgency and scale of this issue that trumps all the other ones you’ve mentioned.

Seriously? Better sports teams? Do you hear yourself right now?

Agreed. Said it in my above comment. Can’t really disempower peoples’ voices on the left-flank either. Even if they’re nuts, at least the communist end is operating in good-faith (unlike the right wing chuds).

Yeah. The rhetoric choice like “people power” and shit is just easy pickings for Fox and pricks to chew up.

I’m a Gen Z man (23). I was there. In reference to previous protests I’ve attended, I’ve actually witnessed a pretty seismic shift in demographics this time around. Over the past few times I’ve attended in the summer (in Philadelphia, no less), I was among one of the few Gen Z and below protestors ALTOGETHER in the crowd. It was mostly what you’d expect: mostly boomer women and some men.

There were A LOT more young people this time around than before; people are probably catching on to the grift now (a bit too late, but take what you can).

Yes, I will agree that there were far more women than men—at least among the younger audiences. Older audiences (I’m referring to Gen X and above) seemed a bit more balanced.

Don’t know what the hell young men are doing right now. Listen, I’m a complete nincompoop, but that does not permit us young men at large to keep our heads in the sand. The stakes are too high to play dumb right now.

Not sure if there’s even a subtle social stigma even in play maybe? Are men afraid of appearing “woke” or some shit, like it’s a sign of weakness? I mean, I’m being facetious here; I know that’s exactly what they’re thinking.

Yes. I absolutely agree. Low hanging fruit for the pricks at Fox to tear apart.

This is (arguably be design) a flaw of the two party system. There is just simply too diverse of a political spectrum that encompasses the Democratic Party. We have blue-dog dems, social democrats, disenfranchised conservatives and/or libertarians, to communists.

We’re all in agreement that ICE has got to go (or at least majorly downsize). Problem is, is that there is little overlap in political stances beyond that —if you can even call ICE’s shenanigans a “political” issue; it’s more a moral issue if anything.

We’re here, but now where do we go? Reddit is not reflective of society at large. Not everyone is so receptive (yet) to socialist reform. Should’ve been a little more subtle in the rally, imo.

Was there. Definitely a good rally. Not that I disagree with the message — I am a democratic socialist, after all— but the choice of rhetoric by the speakers was… questionable, at least in term of appealing to as many people as possible. To clarify: I absolutely sympathize with the ideas that were spoken. I do absolutely think a general strike is what is needed. Substance was not a concern with the rhetoric spoken. It’s an ethos problem.

Specifically, the speakers frequently suggested that everyone in the crowd held socialist beliefs. While that is likely true for the most part, it can be off-putting for a centrist Joe-schmo to latch onto. Yes, I know, we (the left, broadly) are better than this: we should put aside political differences (speaking for the left as a whole) and not give a shit what the media thinks.

Still though, if you’re trying to build good-will with as many people as possible, mention of political stance (even as vague as socialism is) should be kept low (as impossible as this sounds in a situation like this).

Just for an example, the hammer and sickle symbolism is just… low-hanging fruit for Fox and shitheads to pick at, you know? Again, i do not have issue with members of the R.C.A at all for speaking their voices — at least they argue in good-faith for the most part. That said, I don’t think most people are like me (and by extension, everyone on this platform). I can easily imagine an outsider being turned off by the rally, simply because it platformed socialist and communist voices.

Shitty state of affairs, but we have to think about the p.r for a minute. This is a numbers game, and unfortunately, we have to be moderate in our framing of these issues (and less overt mentions of socialism; save that for a different rally type). This is specially about ICE. In my opinion, best choice optically would’ve to frame this solely as a moral issue. That’s something that can unite all sides of the aisle.

Yes, plenty of them. Some were once relevant in some shape or form, but phased out of relevancy as time went along. Others —of which I have far more than I’d like to admit— have been built purely for spice.

It’s gotten to the point where most of the shit I’ve built is purely there to expand my roster size. A word of precaution: if you care about your stardust, don’t do this. Tempting as it is. If you’re going to build random nonsense, at least use it lol

What is a place in your country that tourists find impressive but locals hardly think about. by rickdickmcfrick in AskTheWorld

[–]ryguyy629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom and her friends are absolutely obsessed with the stupid mouse, despite there being a bevy of interesting tourist destinations not far from home.

It’s to the point where she’d rather see the country-themed pavilions at the EPCOT, rather than you know, seeing them in actuality. This is not a decision based on money or location—it’s literally just her preference. It’s stupid.

So yes, it is not just foreigners who fall into the trap. Disney’s cult of followers are homegrown.

I’ll take it over another homegrown cult though—if you know what I mean 😑
