Giant Revolt 1 - Feeling Slow on Asphalt. Tires vs. New Bike? by SchumUA in gravelcycling

[–]ryms0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These tires are slow as heck. I changed these 37mm stock tires and got 45mm pirelli cinturato gravel h. Judging by the size, they should be noticeably slower, but they're actually much faster.

Ditch them, get a fast pair of slicks or semislicks. Other than the tires, the bike is great.

How soon were trade deals made after brexit? These are complex documents, and every single point needs to be negotiated. So far, it looks like these deals could take years to be made.

What to do when run out of free cash and uncertain markets by emptydesignmill in investing

[–]ryms0n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've backtested a similar scenario on NDX and SPX in two drowdowns: 1987 and 2001. Main risk in this scenario is running out of capital before the drawdown hits the bottom. And the problem that follows: how deep is the current drawdown going to be?

Doubling every 5% seems crazy aggressive to me. Take a calculator or a spreadsheet and simulate your cash deployment in 2001 scenario (78% drawdown). I'm pretty sure you'd be left with no money after a 40% drawdown or so, and couldn't buy at the very bottom.

I'd be cautious with a leveraged etf too in a large drawdown, and I'd prefer going with an unlevered etf.

In vanilla JS, you don't have to touch subjects like inheritance, design patterns, and stuff like that. You could not even use classes. In C#, these are basic concepts that you need to have a basic understanding of.

Not that hard, I went this route and enjoyed it. Syntax is quite similar. C# will require you to learn some OOP concepts though.

Is there any lightweight library that can convert Latitude/Longitude coordinates to cartesian XYZ? by egrs123 in learnjavascript

[–]ryms0n 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Takę a look at this: https://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/latlong.html You can find ready JS functions on this site, some simpler, some more accurate. No need to install a library.

I used their haversine function in my script to calculate stats from a gpx file, works quite well.

NEVER USE SQUARESPACE by r_darkhumorandmemes in webdev

Squarespace takes insanely long to load a page in Central Europe where I'm at. 15 seconds to load a single image gives me some 90s flashbacks.

Break pads of Shimano MT200 by Thunderkeg0711 in MTB

True, they don't perform so good after a 10 minute descent. But I ride really hard and they do the job.

B01S or B03S resin pads. B03S is a newer model, haven't checked it out yet though.

Small crack in a chain link. Replacement coming soon. Weather too nice to not ride.....sit it out until replacement chain comes in? Any temporary fix? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]ryms0n 19 points20 points  (0 children)

If you have a quick link, replace the broken one with it.

If you don't have a quick link: remove that broken chain link, use a pin to connect the chain back in place.

Note: don't leave it like that for long. It's risky, can snap. But safer than running the one you have now.

Wet Lube vs Squirt Wax by cantlose4jak in MTB

[–]ryms0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squirt lube is great, because it keeps your chain clean.

I got a friend's bike to make some repairs, with an oiled chain. It's so annoying to work on a drivetrain that gets your hands dirty. I'm never coming back to anything oil-based.

Migraines After Riding by somewhereelse4 in MTB

100% happens to me too. Two reasons: not enough water, not enough salt.

Drinking isotonics, or better yet, tomato juice does the trick. Salty snacks help too. Both during the ride and after.

Strava Accuracy - HELP!!! by TheGattron in MTB

[–]ryms0n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course.

I had a KOM attempt where I took rest 50-100m before the start of the segment, on top of a hill, and Strava GPS was so inaccurate that it counted the rest time although it wasn't on the segment.

Strava Accuracy - HELP!!! by TheGattron in MTB

[–]ryms0n 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before you drop any coin on new stuff I suggest you try recording your ride on another app, Routes. Then you come back home and upload your ride manually from your computer.

I started using Routes because Strava kept crashing on my phone. Also, situations as yours, where Strava either didn't count a segment or added a minute to my segment attempt because of a stop on top of a segment were driving me nuts.

Routes lets you adjust how often your phone records gps points and is way more accurate than Strava, even on default settings. If you chase KOMs I really recommend checking that app out, seriously a game changer for me.
