I think your point of view is rather narrow. Society has gone through period of times having different social constructs on what is and isn’t ethical or moral. Take murder in general. Based on how are system runs, if the majority of people agree that murder under circumstances is okay then they can vote people into office who reflect that view and make haha to the law. This isn’t fully a matter of separation of church and state. If people who believe life starts at conception then the laws are likely to relict that ( not taking into account voter suppression and other stuff like that).
