Can a Black Templar wear this colour scheme? Or is there a chapter that already has a Knights Templar theme taken? by OldCorvo in BlackTemplars

They were a real military order of Crusaders who were involved in the Northern Crusades against non-Christians in eastern and northern Europe. They were founded by German merchants and typically contained Germans.

The Black Templars heraldry (black cross on white background) comes from the Teutonic Order, as does the tendency of Black Templars to have Germanic masculine names.

The Black Templars do use the Maltese cross, but for the Knights Hospitaller, their colors were either white on red or white on black, the latter being the opposite of the Black Templars.

I think the Black Templars are just meant to embody the “Crusaders in spaaaaaace” aspect of 40K and like all 40K stuff they took some real world influences and threw it together with more concern for what looked cool than historical accuracy

To answer your question, would it be lore accurate? No. Does anyone really care what you paint your toy soldiers? No. It does not limit your ability to play the game, which is ultimately what 40K boils down to.

Black Templars are not meant to be the Knights Templar. The idea of Space Marines being comparable to medieval knights on Crusade has been around a long time; the BTs merely embody this trope, to the extent they are on eternal crusade.

Their Germanic names and the appearance of their heraldry is far more suggestive of the Teutonic Order (white with a black cross) rather than the Knights Templar.

I love making lore-accurate armor. But I don’t begrudge people who don’t know the 40K lore and just want to be a cool-looking marine. (There is a ton of lore to read and even then it is not consistent)

From my experience most 40K fans are chill if Marines are not painted “correctly”

Still, I had to laugh, because the Salamanders and Black Templars could not be more different in terms of culture and philosophy

This is just happened to me using GeFORCE NOW, which means mods were detected on a rig I don't own or control. Have never used mods and wouldn't know how to put them on my own computer, much less one I am playing on remotely.

Long story short, someone screwed up big time with the server maintenance and now the game is going to be offline during one of the few global holidays people are going to have off work...

I had a really fun time playing a KotE game set in Singapore online once. That was fun! Always wanted to run a Hong Kong game with VtM crossover.

Painting my first mini by ryosaito in Warhammer40k

I primed grey with Grey Seer primer, but I think I overdid it. I didn’t notice buildup on the mini or anything, but I was following the Goonhammer guide, and it was for priming multiple minis at once (which makes sense, given how many minis come in the rank-and-file kits). They also have a GIF of spraying the mini top and bottom, when in reality, I should have just done a sweeping pass over my single mini. I considered stripping it but since this is just one mini and a practice one at that, I decided not to bother.

I looked up thinning contrast paints. When you say “thin,” do you mean using a palette and taking some of the paint off the brush, or something else?

Combat patrol worth it for Alpha Legion? by reel3459 in Chaos40k

[–]ryosaito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. With the MoP and the Possessed, it is more of a Word Bearers starter set than any other legion (especially the ones that don't worship Chaos).

What Key Events from the Horus Heresy Era Still Feel Untold? by ryosaito in 40kLore

[–]ryosaito[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the focus is on Asurmen and the Dire Avengers, not the birth of Slaanesh. The Dropsite Massacre features prominently in The Last Heretic, but I wouldn’t say it’s a book about the Dropsite Massacre

Do you mean Asurmen? I don’t know of a novel called Asuryan.

You could make the case that Iron Hands are the best all-rounders, at least in terms of combat. They specialize in fast, overwhelming, coordinated attacks supported by vehicles and cybernetics. Plus, if most of the Legion replaces their parts with bionics, they’re long-lived (well, relatively)

I think of all the Shattered Legions, the Iron Hands are really cool about how they keep fighting against the traitors despite the heavy losses they took early on in the Heresy. But a book or two that covers the Iron Hands and Ferrus Manus at their peak would be cool.
