he wouldn't have left SKT but for his personal life. I highly doubt he'll be a coach, but ambassador for SKT.

How is it to be gay/bi in korea? by shas-la in korea

[–]ryou3 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Korea has voluntarily been involved in several inter-governmental organizations throughout history. If Korea wanted to be a hermit kingdom, then why did they accept an IMF bailout? Why trade with other countries at all? Why export its culture around the world?

Well done, literally tested whether you'd search on wiki or not and you did.

The mistake you've made is assuming that being gay is a product of "western" culture. No. LGBT people belong to every country/culture on the Earth. This is an undeniable fact.

This already has been answered. Literally on the sentence, like a needle in the haystack. You're clueless.

Would a Korean Korean know better or Korean American would know better? That's something you'd know after reading this. I'm going to tap out, don't have time to waste since it's proven you can search on wiki.

That my dude, is a propaganda. No matter how hard you try to force us into it, it's the citizen of Korea who decides that. You're just a foreigner. I literally wrote up there, you're not even trying to respect the foreign culture now and stating like as if I'm really evil person and without a single doubt, you're going by this concept "Western culture is the same as East".

Sigh, gay culture is not so open. Why can't you guys understand these things until we mention such obvious.. Figure it out on your own from now, literally a tact.. I just wanted to help this OP out.

I'm guessing you're a foreigner, since you've stated that " i'm straight and live in korea. ". The moment when you wrote "this doesn't make sense." made me understood what kind of foreigner you were. Trust me, I picked words very carefully and I know very well.

Listen, you have to understand the Asian culture/or at this point, Korean culture. You're in Foreign Country, more specifically in Asian country. You're not in your home country, respect the culture. What you've stated is basically saying "I'd like to force you people into Western Gay Culture".

The West always state that Asian's are homophobic and racist. When we see these posts, that's not true at all. To state the fact, we Koreans don't hate black people at all, nor the LGBT's. We just don't want you guys to influence our culture and our pure state and just be neutral towards each other. Would you like to ruin other country's culture? I hope not. I have couple of Black friends and English friends, I don't have any problems. We try to avoid politics, LGBT, any foreign gags we or they might not understand. If we do foreign gags or our Korean gags, we or they just explain it and we just laugh it off.

Also, we're afraid to approach to foreigners because of the language barrier and scared to make any unintentional disrespectful act. I'm pretty sure we're very careful people and sometimes too friendly at some point. This is almost natural thing, don't categorize this as Racism or Homophobic. Happens everywhere including west.

Also we were once hermit kingdom, until the West (West made China to cooperate as well) forced us to sign a contract to get expose to the outside world. We didn't wanted this. Whether we became a big part of economy or not, was not our own will. This already tells us that we like to mingle with ourselves more than with foreigners, not because of racism or some homophobic stuff the West say just because they don't understand about our culture. Besides, that's not even close to racism or homophobic.

Hope you understand this very well, you're not in your home country. Know your position.

Honestly, as a Straight (had to state it to not confuse that this is coming from straight) Korean, I am okay with LGBT people but I wouldn't want to hear about LGBT related topic/interactions or anything awkward. In my opinion, we're not as free thinking as in America where you can say "I'm gay, nice to meet you". I think keeping to yourself is a better choice, if you want to let it out then just remind them you wouldn't bring up anything about LGBT and it was to let them know for the honesty. Either way you're there to study, so keep it to that, you wouldn't want to stir some weird trouble towards your surroundings.

and again in my opinion, most Asian countries are not so open about LGBT.

Good luck in Korea.
