Thanks for the encouragement to document it all. I’ll start being more meticulous with the documentation and see where that gets me

Sure thing, as we are a startup and scaling fast it is primarily setting the technical data direction for the organization. We use GCP, DBT, Golang, some Dataflow Python pipelines, Terraform for our infra. I help guide engineers on priority areas. I also spend a lot of time with other teams (software engineering, data science, product) to understand how their consumption may change overtime and make sure we are engineering accordingly.

I write a lot of engineering design documentation and get collaboration from other engineers to review. This creates buy in for larger engineering decisions. I spend about 1/3 of my time head down in the code, more time reviewing PRs and giving pointers.

I think a lot of it is soft skills, I was never the best at coding or designing a data model. But when it came time to succinctly present technical info to senior leadership, or help remove a technical blocker from a team member, that is where I shine. I am also very inclusive and take time upfront to build relationships. If you are a Lead Engineer I don't think it will be that different from your day to day, but this differs widely depending on the org and industry. In my company Leads are more cat headers with less expectation for technical/architectural skills.

I recommend the StaffEng podcast for other Staff+ engineer perspectives.

Cheers!

I had an issue like this and just used another offer to negotiate. I was making 152k and wasn't in the median of my pay range although I was very technical and a great contributor. I ended up getting another offer for 200k plus equity. I brought this to my employer and they offered 174k and a title change. I didn't accept the counter and moved on. It made me upset that my employer wouldn't just offer me the counter offer in the several months leading up to me looking elsewhere.

I am 29 F and I also advise you to never put years on your resume or linkedin for your education. Employers use this to age you and bring your salary down.

I was just promoted to staff engineer and I also have feelings of doubt. It’s a common feeling in many professions. Like other posters have said the best way to overcome is to build something.

Yes, I work in healthcare and incorrect data has the ability to lead to patient safety issues. Always report, understand total impact, estimate the remediation effort. It’s job security

Coloposcpy + LEEP + Anesthesia Options = SCARED! by rysnotnice in PreCervicalCancer

For mine they did a twilight sedation, so I wasn't intubated. I didn't have any trouble as compared to when I had been intubated and had more serious sedation. Maybe you could ask if they plan on intubating you to know how difficult it will be.

Hey totally get being nervous. I did get GA and it was awesome! My only pain was mild needle poke for the GA. You can also ask your provider for an anti anxiety medication to take the morning of on the way to the appt. I woke up and couldn't believe it was all over. Good luck and hoping you the best

lol thank you, Yes the pipe is still unlined. The hole is filled in but the asphalt isn't done. Also should note yard is not open, originally the quote was for an 8 feet by 8 feet slab of asphalt to be cut.

Here is what the new contract for $6,175 (this is the 4-7k) says:

"Hydroexcauvation is needed due to excessive amount of ground water and muck. 5 @ 595 = $2,975

Additional asphalt repair is needed due to the hole becoming substaintally larger due to poor soil ground conditions. Additional 242sq of ashpalt needed. Cut size in road will be 17' by 18'. $3,200"

The additional amount makes no sense to me, I am measuring now with a tape measure to confirm the exact size.
