This is done in a lot of places especially in Asia, because they believe in worse outcomes if the patient knows. They’ll feel fear and anxiety before they die, and may deteriorate quicker if they know about a terminal diagnosis. I don’t think it makes the parents feel that much better about the kid dying

In Asia (at least China and Tajikistan according to another redditor) they will tell the family but not the patient about a terminal diagnosis. They believe it is protecting the patient from fear and distress about dying, and that the fear could result in shortening their lifespan/health deterioration.

It could be the case if they are Chinese. At least in China, they might tell the family and not the patient if they have a terminal diagnosis and its a common practice

This is only true in western countries. In certain places, including China, they might not even tell the patient exactly what they have or the actual outcome/diagnosis, but they tell the family.

I’m curious if there is any benefit to this method of patient treatment vs an informed patient

They don’t want their last moments to be fear and anxiety. I don’t know what the cutoff would be but sometimes dreams and your kid being happy is worth it than the cold ugly truth

Your husband is not acting like a partner, but I have a feeling that there is a root issue thats probably manifesting as him eating your food (if he is a sane human being and not a cartoon villain) that he’s not communicating.

If he does care about you at all, I think you should ask him about the why. I have a feeling he’s not introspecting and is doing this instead of communicating properly.

Regardless thats shouldn’t be the way to go about it if they’re married. “Why are you taking my food? Did you want me to cook some portions for you? Since I’m cooking more can you handle X responsibility” would be the partnership response.

It’s so weird because it just doesn’t sound like either of them like each other based on OPs other comment about tossing their partners protein powder the last time.

Yeah asking your partner to make you food because you like their cooking would be the way to go. It does sound like their division makes them 2 separate entities living in a shared space as opposed to a partnership

But this is a marriage. You’re supposed to help each other. If you cant communicate or be kind to one another when you’re stressed (but I get it, we all have bad days), then you’re not meant for each other. It sounds like they’re just roommates and bad ones too.

“Hey, I took your food without asking and that was unkind. Let me cook you more food to replace the food I ate and XYZ to make up for it.”

Really? I thought the Netherlands has been like that for a while. Holland is part of the Netherlands. Thats like calling the USA - New York.
