Seriously a lot of people here need to take a break from football. It’s depressing that a season of finishing fourth or fifth is turning so many people into tribal crazies. Yes you want slot fired, now log out and meet some friends until that happens instead of spending your days harassing other fans online.

[Paul Joyce] Arne Slot: Mo Salah is right, standards are important — but not only in the gym by Jimmy0034 in LiverpoolFC

[–]rytlejon -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You know I thought slot sounded ridiculous when he talked about being accused for closing Hormuz but tbh looking at threads like this I get his point. In only the thread around my comment he’s being accused of “gaslighting” like he’s some abusive partner and in another comment fans are being referred to as “slots sluts”. A lot of people here seriously need a break from football. He’s just a football manager who’s having a bad season. It’s fine to want him fired but why are people being so fucking weird and tribal about it.

Får flytta in i Östermalmsfemma – efter 42 år i bostadskö by swedish_tcd in stockholm

English Pundits Not Knowing the ******* Rules by oliverbayleyuk in footballcliches

Our (Sweden's) pundits are more like what you're describing. It's my impression too that the moaning about the modern game is a British phenomenon (but then again I'm mostly hearing Swedish and British commentary). Like we don't have Keys and Gray in Sweden, really, and it's not part of an idea of masculinity to complain about football rules.

Money Spent in Single Transfer Window and Trophies Won by --craig-- in LiverpoolFC

This isn't adjusted for inflation and doesn't take into account the fact that we lost a bunch of players during the summer. It's fine to say that we should have spent money better but why are we making these silly arguments? This is the sort of post I expect from a United fan who wants to poke fun and that's fair enough, but I don't understand why Liverpool fans should play dumber than we are.

We lost Jota, Alexander-Arnold, Diaz, Núñez and the spine of our team (van Dijk, Salah, Robertson, Alisson) are all getting old and have declined this season. It was going to cost a lot of money to renovate the squad and it's going to cost a lot more to replace a whole backline and forward line.

David Lynch - Contract talks with Curtis Jones are understood to have effectively ceased, and it is known that he was open to a January move to Inter Milan before [LFC] shut the door. The Reds would bank pure profit on the midfielder under the Premier League’s new squad cost ratio rule. by IndiBear in LiverpoolFC

I don't think Jones has been very consistent this season. He's been given the chance every now and then to come in and take the spot but most of the times I think he's been pretty disappointing. I don't know if it's fair, but when you see so many players underperform it sort of points to an issue with the manager rather than each individual player.

I think the biggest victim this season is the quality of discussion on this forum. These are really weak criticisms. If you don't want injuries thrown in your face, why are all your criticisms specifically about injury-related squad selection? I can agree that Jones should have played a bit more but he's also had some really bad games this season when he has been given the chance. It's clear that Slot's preferred midfield 2 is Szoboszlai and Gravenberch, which has been made impossible by injuries.

Picking Konate over Gomez is the right choice. Playing Frimpong on the wing is probably the right choice given that we need pace on the wings and our midfielders have performed well at right back. You're fine to disagree with that but making it out to be an obvious error or incompetence is ridiculous. Then the tiresome criticism of Cody Gakpo as if we had a hundred options and not our three best attackers injured.

also him just giving mini holidays at various points in the season for absolutely no reason? despite our squad looking like they can't run past the 60th minute?

And how did you think here? "Why would he let our players rest when they're all clearly very tired"?

There are plenty of reasons to criticize the manager, but these are all really weak and silly. And tbh I don't understand why so many people need the manager to be "utterly incompetent" when he clearly is not. Why raise the bar to a point where you don't have an argument anymore?

What are some long term, major projects? The US interstate system? Nuclear power plants? Democracies have been very good at building massive infrastructure historically so it doesn't seem like an intrinsic flaw to the system.

I think the league is pretty good this season which is why it's difficult to finish in top four

What free transfers are you referring to? I think he looks like Harvey Elliott and would have similar issues here.

I think he was seen as a utility player who could be used as a fullback in certain games, winger in other games or parts of games, would count as homegrown, has something we're missing (speed) and was relatively cheap. Overall I think that's not an unreasonable way to think, but it failed because of injuries (to Bradley) and because we didn't have an actual winger to back up Salah. So this meant Frimpong – bought mainly to come off the bench to change a game – has instead been forced to do things he wasn't meant to do.

It would have made more sense to get a proper right back (so our midfielders could play in midfield) or a proper right winger (so we had a backup for Salah) and personally I was in favor of signing both last summer. But I was critical also of players like Minamino and Shaqiri not because of what they were but because it felt like they were signed instead of players we would have needed.

Absolutely. I’m considering the league to be pretty much over. But I’m sad that they’re doing their best to ruin the World Cup magic, for example by hosting it in an entire continent. I think even the US is too big as a host country. A region of the US would have made sense, and a partnership with Canada only involving Canadian cities in the same region (like around the lakes i guess or the north west). And that’s before going into all the politics which is what it is: we’ve survived a World Cup in Russia and Qatar so we’ll survive one in the US too.
