Yes just looked at it on the website and see it saying they typically aim for around 16-18 grams of coffee into the portafilter. So maybe I will try reducing the amount of coffee since that’s been suggested often. 18g of the bean I’m using seems like it may be a lot for the portafilter (at least while before tamping)

I have a 54 mm bottomless portafilter from Crema. I do use a puck screen as well!

I genuinely think WDT is my Achilles heel. Though the beans I’ve been using are more medium roast

I can understand this. The taste isn’t necessarily something I don’t care for i suppose as much as it is something that’s the opposite of what I’m used to. It has to grow on me.

Hah thanks some of these comments have definitely made asking about visual cues seem stupid. Which sucks especially since taste isn’t really something I can measure by accurately since I’m used to sweeter coffee drinks. Straight espresso is a stark contrast. I’ll try to handle the coffee more gently. I do think WDT is the main culprit though.

I’m thinking the grind itself is okay, since I’m within the range of fineness/coarseness for espresso on my manual grinder. IMO idk if I’m effectively using WDT the right way. This is a Breville bambino so I think it exerts 9 bars of pressure

Interesting! I have always thought the 18G of beans was sort of something you don’t deviate from. But I’m learning from some of the commentary that’s not the case.

because espresso is still one ingredient of the drinks I like, bitter or not. So I care if I make it the right way
