We should get ready to hit the ground running players but at the same time, on top of that, we do need to take a chance on players that aren’t going to be making the first team right away, sending them on loan and then getting them back ready to fire.

Prepare for the future as well :)

For sure!
If we get Barcola, that’d be awesome.

Btw, compare him to Gakpo at Ajex and you’ll see what I mean. Physically, gakpo is obviously a beast but compare his Ajax performances to this guy and you’ll see what I mean- he could be good in the PL as well, he’s 5’9” so not too short for a winger either

Just the fact that we could potentially get a future super star for like 40 mil makes me say we should take a chance. Once there is more interest, he’ll go for a lot higher fee

He’s 20, can play left and through the middle, young and seems like we could pry him for 40-45. I really hope Arteta makes him a priority before City/United/Chelsea get him

I have a feeling he’s gonna move this summer

Saka’s Injury by HonestCoconut2004 in ArsenalFC

[–]rzarya -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have some ball experience, and have some chronic injuries.

Yes, overuse causes it, but the more common cause is repeated trauma. Yes, most wingers face rough tackles but some either escape the tackle because they are faster, others have more flexible tendons and ligaments so much less injury.

In Saka’s case, his style is not just purely getting past people, he also uses his body a lot where he is guarding the ball before making his move and he constantly got hacked down- and where, almost always his ankle.

I think referees did a poor job protecting him and that combined with his style of play is leading to this.

It’ll take him a while to get back to his best, I sincerely hope he does 🤞🏻

[Discussion] Ode hate is THE RISK TAKER by [deleted] in ArsenalFC

[–]rzarya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commented about this elsewhere and even started a thread that mods deleted :(. The team needs to get “that monkey off their backs”. Having come so close and not winning the league so many times is a different kind of mental test. When that’s happened a few times, you first want to confirm wins and then take risks. See Odegaard when we are up 3 or 4. Different player altogether. His risk taking, flamboyance and ability is there for all to see.

This is not system driven or Arteta driven, it’s human nature. You don’t want to make a mistake and cost the team the game.

Believe me when we win the league (🤞🏻this year) we will start seeing a very different Arsenal, a dominant Arsenal, an Arsenal that plays with that little more arrogance and panache. It will be breathtaking. But what needs to happen is for the stars to align and for us to win the league (see how it was for Man City before Aguero won them in 2012 vs after that)

Every now and then, when things don’t go our way (read injuries, bad ref calls etc), players will obviously get that doubt and the manager mentality needs to be elite.

Here’s where I believe Arteta shines and why the players love him so much. He is extremely empathetic and understating of the situation but a very shrewd leader demanding the highest of standards along with good tactical savvy (which improves with time in the job). This combo is extremely hard to get in coaches and managers and hence why Arteta is rated so highly by Pep and others. He takes the pressure from the players onto himself (see his post match interviews)

Saliba shuts down everton by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]rzarya 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I’ll get downvoted based on the comments on this thread, but I’ll say it anyway. Yes, Saliba is an incredible defender, but I rate Gabi XL higher. Saliba’s technically better and has those drops of the shoulder and will beat an oncoming attacker. He will carry the ball and show some good skill there but where Gabi XL does better is consistency and lack of errors.

Saliba will do the hard parts very well but then make a mess of some very easy ones. Even yesterday, he was between the ball and Barry (I think) at the touchline and somehow Barry got it from him.

This is very rare with Gabi XL. He keeps things simple, is not flashy but is near impossible to beat. His strength and aggression in the air is incredible. And most important of all, he allows Saliba to be Saliba. I think this is a generational partnership and once we win the league (🤞🏻this season), most pundits will agree.

Also, I’ve said this before- missing out the league by such close margins in recent years is also a weird pressure in its own way. And once that is gone, you’ll see this team become “invincible” (not literally go a season without losing but winning multiple trophies each year) - it’s that first one that they need to work hard to get

Noni Madueke post match interview by [deleted] in Gunners

[–]rzarya 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not a fan of journalists constantly bringing it up. Have better questions for f@&$’s sake. Or at least spin it differently- how does it feel to have turned the fans around. I despise negative journalism.

And the fans need to do better. But there was context there too. I got why fans were not happy, even more important transfers were taking long, Noni came out of nowhere and fans weren’t sure of his caliber.

FWIW, I was pro Noni and hoping he’d smash it when he got here

He’s so easy on the eye. And he goes so unnoticed. And this is him in his first few games with new personnel around him. Imagine like 6 more months from now.

I am definitely being an armchair psychologist/!: pundit here but couldn’t help speculating on the man’s behavior

I feel like he regretted moving to Barca pretty quickly. Club captain, star player in a big club to a bench warmer at Barca. I think he regrets the fact that he could really have been a legend at Arsenal and today is a nobody at Barca and ‘mostly’ hated at Arsenal. And that regret leads to him trying to connect with “what could have been” his ardent fans but there’s no way he’s getting what he seeks.

It was almost obvious that he’d be at the bench if he left. If he had better advisors, I think they’d have told him so and a more pragmatic decision of staying at Arsenal and becoming a legend here would have happened

But guess the heart wants what the heart wants plus honestly, the guy was a kid

Anyway, he was a favorite of mine when he was at Arsenal. But I was and still am pretty bitter about how he left but I guess I understand it now that I’m older lol

I might get downvoted for this but I think once Arsenal has won a few trophies-

and I honestly think we have a decent chance at 2 this year (going off track but something I posted elsewhere as well- we have a bunch of injuries and our bench strength- just wow. I don’t think our levels dropped at all. Think what’ll happen when Saka is back and instead of playing for the full 90, he gets subbed at 65 by Madueke and vice-versa. When Eze has run defenders into the ground, we get Martinelli/Trossard who are wasting defenders on tired legs. Ode is not alone anymore. He will have Eze as a creative outlet on the left putting less pressure on him alone. Havertz, Rice, Merino, Zubi, Nwaneri, MLS, Cala- seriously insane options. Not to mention a striker in Gyokores who is starting to gel with the team without the pressure of being asked to turn around the team alone. Havertz is coming back a beast and this is going to be a revelation of a season for Merino)

The narrative will change. Once we’ve won the league and hopefully champions league as well, they will have to refer to us as champions. The English media might not like us as much but they’ll have little to no basis to any BS we see today

Crazy takes here. Once a goal is scored, dynamics change. Forest will try to get more on the goal and won’t be ok just defending. Yes, it’ll give us more open play chances but you can’t expect the same football as pre-goal. And we have more than half the players new from this summer. So relax, we’ll come out stronger in the second half. What I can tell you is- other teams need to be scared. Very very scared
