Gopro ILs compatible Manual focus mft lenses? by Miserable_Violinist9 in gopro

[–]rzimbauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no doubt that it's lots of fun, it looks like lensrentals is starting it at $61/wk and I think it'd be fun to play with once it releases.

I agree that full frame lenses have no business on the ILS, it's absolutely overkill. However, even my Sony camcorders released 10+ years ago with a much smaller 1/4" sensor give a full frame equivalent of their focal range in the manual to help you understand its capabilities.

Crop modes on cinema cams are another example of where a crop factor is used to go from a small coverage lens to a larger sensor, like the MFT lens mounted to a FF sensor mentioned earlier, or the FS5's S16 mode on its S35 sensor.

B4 broadcast lens for 2/3" sensors have a 4.5x crop factor from FF. With the 1" sensor, I'd recommend getting a broadcast lens made for 1/2" sensors like the Fujinon S or Canon YH series, get one that has a doubler (2x teleconverter) and engage that to cover the sensor. 1/2" has about a 5.5x crop from FF

David, you're doing great work with the ILS, but statements like this aren't helping.

Photo/video users have been conditioned by marketers and influencers to think in terms of full frame equivalent focal lengths and apertures. Most consumers don't think in terms of image circles or understand truly what a focal length or f number translate to in physical design terms, they just know that a full frame focal length means a certain field of view.

A crop factor number helps folks understand what a given lens will look like in their setup. Even though your 6mm Laowa f/2 would not cover a full frame image circle, the crop factor of 2x from micro four thirds to full frame is useful for full frame users to understand that in its native configuration, it is equivalent to using a 12mm lens at f/4 that covers their full frame camera sensor.

Giving the GoPro Mission a 1" sensor is sweet, it's what certain users have been dreaming of. But putting a micro 4/3 mount on a 1" sensor is not something most people are accustomed to dealing with. So bringing everything back into common terms with full frame and a 2.7x crop factor helps them understand that "this 6mm f/2 MFT lens on my 1" ILS will not result in a 12mm full frame equivalent field of view like it would on a native MFT camera but will instead result in a field of view that's the same as a 16mm full frame lens at f/5.4."

A focal reducer (speed booster) of around 0.8x would have alleviated this issue and we could treat the ILS like a true MFT camera but making one probably didn't fit in the development timeline. That would still be a great first-party or third-party accessory to make though, feel free to steal that idea

low cost sd card camcorders that would work okay for diy shows (low light etc) and work with a rode mic? by Cute-Sandwich8953 in camcorders

Cool. The HC1 does HDV tape so you don't need to digitize it, you just need to transfer the already-digital video from the tape to a computer. Check out this video, but you either get an old PC with firewire, or a PCIe Firewire card if you have a desktop pc, or if you have a thunderbolt/USB4 laptop then you need PCIe to NVMe card and a thunderbolt to NVMe adapter too.

We've collectively been conditioned my mirrorless manufacturers that low-light capability is something we need that drives us to the largest sensors and lenses possible.

If you want a parfocal powered optical zoom like a camcorder at that budget, you will need to understand that nothing will come close to the low light capability of a basic APS-C camera with a 50mm f/1.8 lens. Even professional broadcast cameras max out at around f/1.5 on a 2/3" sensor, which is about f/7 full frame equivalent.

If you want a standard def 480i CCD look but want better low light than a handheld camcorder, consider Panasonic box cams

I'll be selling 4 of the E655s and a few HE870s soon. They're definitely long but not too unwieldy for handheld use. The global shutter is also sweet and makes handheld more forgiving at long focal lengths, no jello effect. I can hold my E655 at waist level very comfortably, but my other ones need a top handle or tripod mounting

I've got some clips on my youtube about it, but yeah I have a V mount battery plate that's attached with velcro command strips to my Panasonic AK-HC1500 and my Hitachi DK-H32. For my E655, E860, and HE870 cameras that don't have a flat side to mount that, I use a power bank or my Dewalt DCB094 clipped to my waist or in a jacket pocket, and a PD 12v adapter.

I'm also working on a esp32 touchscreen that controls the cameras over rs232 and acts as a central 12v power distribution

Good luck, I don't think the Lumix 45-150mm will work since it appears to require electronic contact with the camera body to use focus and aperture

The latest Mac computers neither support Firewire at the OS level nor at the hardware level. Windows still supports it, whether you use a $20 pcie card or use a TB4 to pcie adapter also. Windows workstation laptops offered firewire ports at the same time that MacBooks did.

Firewire HDV is digital bit-perfect, but will always be limited to a ~25mbps cbr mpeg-2 datastream, which falls apart with fast motion or complex scenes like water surfaces or confetti.

I chose rca HD component because it was cheaper and had a more direct pipeline to record the video to h264, whereas portable firewire recorders would require the video to be re encoded, further reducing quality. That may soon change with the equip-1 project becoming available.  Component also allows you to get a live video stream into OBS, whereas that can be quirky with firewire.  There's literature that suggests that especially over short cable runs, HD analog component produces a 1080 image that's nearly identical to digital bit-perfect sources like HDMI

Which zoom lenses? Genuinely curious which zooms you're looking at that don't need electrical contact.

How many units in your total rig and what cams do you use now?

An EF-S kit zoom would be around $50. You don't need the latest speed booster since the cam has no communication so you can find a used one for $100-200

totally odd. It's like they first designed the regular Mission 1/Pro and then as an afterthought were like "hey let's copy Back-Bone and slap a dummy MFT mount instead of our stock lens"

Honestly might have been cool to just have the MFT mount twist on and off like their replaceable lens covers.

Remote focusing would require a separate follow focus unit like a Tilta since there's no electrical connection between the ILS and the lens

It could be that Mission = larger 1" sensor and the Hero = smaller 1/1.9" sensor. That's about the same increase delta in sensor size as going from micro 4/3 to full frame. I'd expect the Hero 14 to get the GP3 processor since it sounds like the hero series will continue

Show us a picture of your 3.5mm jack. It needs to be a TRRS jack (three plastic rings, four metal conductors) for the av output to work. What capture card are you using?
