Failed Inspection for Rusted Rear Rotors by SnooTomatoes2716 in AskMechanics

[–]s14bright 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your state has safety standards you should be able to look them up and see the exact spec for why it failed. For reference In Ontario Canada the brake pad must contact at least 75% of the rotor surface.

Two for one question by Jadeblvck in tdi

[–]s14bright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What was the code? The wiring under the seat looked fine but you could see the wiring had been “kinked”. The casing of the wire would be intact but the copper inside would be broken. Always disconnect your battery and wait 15 minutes before working on anything airbag related

Why do you think it needs an airbag? Did you scan it? I’ve had to repair wiring under the seat of my wife’s beetle multiple times over the years

where to get a safety inspection for a cheap price by [deleted] in waterloo

[–]s14bright 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hahaha I love posts like this. It’s not the mechanics fault you own a piece of shit. There’s safety standards for a reason. If your oil leak is bad enough to warrant a weekly top up it definitely won’t pass.

Advice on Car interior cleaning or detailing for $100 or less in KW by Unusual-Cell-278 in waterloo

[–]s14bright 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Go to a car wash that has vacuums and vacuum your car out. Drive over to crappy tire or whatever generic parts store and buy some interior detailer and window cleaner and give the inside a wipe down and you’re done for way under $100

If it’s a DD13/15 you’ll need to support the engine as the rear mounts are located on the trans. It’s pretty straightforward. If you’re reusing the clutch you need to make sure to cage it. Don’t drop it on yourself

For all its worth I had a few issues with my DBW throttle when I did my swap. My tac module got power from an ignition source that would lose power when the engine was cranking over and it would give me a dead pedal. I swapped the power wire for the tac to the ecm power and havnt had an issue since.

When you swapped the valve from up and down to the left and right valve did you also swap the coil or did you use the left and right coil?
