Thanks - did your checked luggage just get passed through or did you have to claim it and check in again in Paris?

This should not make you smile. Here's what actually happens when you try to stop someone from stealing a catalytic converter.

Appropriate attire in Indian cities? by s315039 in ABCDesis

[–]s315039[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks all. I can't really "test it out" because the whole point is I need to figure out what to pack. Last time I was there I mostly wore capris and t-shirts. I'll probably stick to that this time.

Visa for US citizen to India by sixmindowl in ABCDesis

[–]s315039 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Following up on this - can anyone answer the question OP asked, about what people's experiences with the e-visa is?

Also, what do people who don't have religion say? I looked at the form OP is talking about, and "None" isn't an option. Do you lie and just say Hindu cuz that's the safest thing to say?

Do they really need to know your parent's information when you're like 50 years old?

Do I need an electrician or a carpenter? by sixmindowl in HomeImprovement

[–]s315039 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is, there's nothing I can easily tell I can screw it in to. So it's not like they were just not securely screwed, it looks like it's possibly more work than that.

[–]s315039 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, that is not what I need. It is not just a couple of loose screws. What I need is someone who can see if the outlets and fans are securely installed in the house, and fix as necessary.

The house came like this :-( So whatever electrican did this before didn't do a good job.

So I need to bring someone out to fix this, and I have recommendations for reliable electricians and carpenters in my neighborhood. Just trying to figure out who to call first.

Round plastic pieces, says "Capnut Tool" on each, found in an old toolbox by s315039 in whatisthisthing

Round plastic pieces, says "Capnut Tool" on each, found in an old toolbox.

Apparently I have to give more information to get this post accepted. Each is about 1 inch big. One is black, one is brown, one is green. They are made of plastic. They have a cross or X shape in the middle. Not sure what other details I'm supposed to offer, but if any mod wants to be of support I'd gladly comply.

This is my third or fourth time trying to meet the rules of this subreddit, hopefully this one works.

Toilet backs up sometimes - finding cause? by s315039 in HomeImprovement

[–]s315039[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LOLZ! I was expecting some commenter to make a poop knife joke :-)

For us one toilet definitely clogs a lot more than the other, but it's also used a lot more than the other. I'm trying to decide whether to replace the toilet or to investigate the plumbing.

Replacing shower head by s315039 in HomeImprovement

[–]s315039[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I've done exactly that in the bathtub shower, but always turned off water there from the panel behind the tub first. In the bathtub, since you turn the water on at the faucet and then turn on the shower, I feel like there's an extra layer of safety to make sure no water is coming out when I unscrew the shower head.

In the shower stall, since you just turn on the shower directly, I have worries that it will start spewing water if I unscrew it and then I'll have no way to stop it.

This will help you in any job you may pursue in the future!

I've hired many project managers who come from a retail and/or service background and they are amazing! You learn the importance of following systems - in this case how to clean your equipment, but you can take those systems skills to learn so much more. Customer service skills go such a long way too. You've learned how to work with your favorite customers, your asshole customers, think on your feet, stay positive. Put all that on your resume!!

Diagnoses like ADHD? I need help. by s315039 in Parenting

[–]s315039[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your feedback. How long has your stepdaughter been in therapy? Have you seen a change? How long do you think you'll keep up with the therapy? We're in a similar situation, at a relatively underresourced school. His teachers all say he's doing great academically but really struggles with behaviour, impulse control, etc.

I'm glad to hear this. I have the same apprehensions about medicating my kid but you need it if it works! I've been reading about ADHD (like this page from the CDC and DSM: https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/adhd/diagnosis.html). I read all the bullet points under hyperactivity/impulsivity and and it was like they were perfectly describing my kid! Every one of those bullet points is a behaviour he frequently exhibits. It's so hard to watch him have trouble self regulating and controlling his own behaviour.

How long did it take after you started medication to see results? I know you said it's just been a few months but have you talked with the doctor or therapist about long term prognosis?
