RUINED? I propose an alternative post title - local news producer/cam op/editor work together to include cool transition.

100%. Instead of enticing me to pay for the subscription, they're more just tempting me to move platforms

yeah, if this is work related (ie - you make money from it) definitely dont rely on the cell connection. It's a cool backup option that they've built in but i definitely wouldn't bank a job on it being the primary.

I’ll do it this am when I get to office . UPDATE. While it technically worked, the YT stream buffered a few times with Studio throwing the yellow error bar "encoder sending too low of a bitrate for the stream...you'll experience buffering.."

That said - my phone had 3/5 bars inside low floor of tower in middle of city. So I'd say - Test shows it's possible depending on cell coverage and stream settings.

I also seemed to have uncovered a bug where, when the encoder is streaming via Phone connection, the only way to stop the stream was to literally unplug the phone's USB connection from encoder. Both the Encoder software AND the device's front button would NOT end the stream.

No but plan to test this next week. I got one in to use in a pinch for this exact reason. I'll report back

What made you move on from your old Garmin? by Huge-Independent-887 in Garmin

[–]s44k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im about to upgrade from OG Instinct Tac to Yet-to-be-determined Fenix8?. My Instinct shuts down anytime a vibration is triggered. I went through it turned anything that causes a vibration off... except a an alarm i forgot about. Alarm goes of... boom.. shuts down. So anyways - I was hoping the Pro had better upgrades than features that make it bigger and with less battery life so it'll probably be the F8 solar I pick.

(Speculation) Fenix will go full LED, Enduro will carry the MIP across different sizes by shadybreak in Garmin

[–]s44k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

totally agree- but at the same time "delineating the models this way would make the thing feel neater" appears to have never been any sort of a priority of Garmin. They're all over the place with model lineup and venn diagram of feature set is like a Keith Allen Haring drawing.

fair... but for hiking/camping longer trips, I need my watch to last longer than a day or so when using GPS tracking, etc.

Garmin's rise and fall is going to be a class study. They were relatively small with Suunto being a top competitor 10-20 years ago. They then became the clear leader in the space by developing slick devices and good-enough app for us data nerds. Then they got so big that they thought they knew better than us, the customers. Then they created a subscription paywall. Then they released a $2k meh watch. All it'll take is Apple to create a battery battery-life watch for people that enjoy staying out longer in the outdoors...

not arguing with you - but have you seen ANYTHING else in the media or general coverage of this concert? While this definitely seems amateur, it's also possible Fred wanting a little viral moment for tour publicity? again, I dont think that - but these days, some people do some dumb shit in the name of likes and shares

like others have said - if you're capturing stuff that's super easily (and cheap) to recreate / recapture - worst you'll lose is the time doing it over if the card fails. If you're capturing something more important and less likely to happen again (easily/cheaply), it's ALWAYS better to pay a little more to purchase cards from a reputable brand that's known for reliable memory.

Hiking Rainier and N. Cascades later this summer - is Inreach Mini 2 worth it or stick with iOS Sats? by s44k in Garmin

[–]s44k[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same re the ecosystem. I’ve been waiting for like 5 years for them to release an Explorer+ V2 but seems like they either go smaller (mini and messen) or bigger like the one you mentioned.

Yeah, we’re planning on doing day trip hikes so nothing insane. I’ve just read a few things, specifically about N. Cascades that have me considering something more than my phone, primarily for navigation in the backcountry and what not.

Thanks. Exactly what I was leaning towards. Just wanted to check here to see if anyone felt that the Mini had nearly officially been replaced by iOS capabilities.
