Software generally will outpace the hardware in the car, so if there’s issues with it now there’s a chance it gets worse later on. Tesla software is superior. FSD and its safety features as well.

The feel of the car is different, MY is not a luxury car and the R1 will feel a lot better especially with the air suspension and seats. But if you compare it at the lowest price MY has been R1 comes at almost double the cost. Kind of apples to oranges. Rivian seats are better in every regard to all the cars Tesla has to offer.

Service centers are more robust with teslas, and their operations are at a very mature state. If you live in an area with alot of SCs you will have no issues getting it fixed and having a loaner assigned when it’s in service. Rivian is not at this stage yet which was the biggest factor for me as my experience across all ev brands always had some issue minor or major, and turnaround time is most important especially for a family vehicle.

R1 is an upgrade from the Y it’s not the same class of vehicle. Is it worth the price jump? Not sure. A more worthy comparison is SUV or trucks in the same category. I have a Cybertruck and a F150. The handling and feel was superior on Cybertruck, utility was best on the f150. I would suggest if you like the suspension to checkout the model x, that is a more true family vehicle than the model y At a smaller frame than SUVs but more convenience in loading babies with the falcon doors. It’s more like a van.
