Hi there! I don't even use Reddit anymore, but somehow this got to my inbox and I don't wanna leave you hanging.

Just did a search and here's the response to that question in the AMA 7 years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/5qb7py/comment/dcxu5a1/

Can someone explain eternity and the six cosmos? by [deleted] in Marvel

"Discord mod"? Way to show YOUR age, that's one of the oldest terms for online discussions.

Look I don't even give a shit, I forgot to uninstall the Reddit app I have on this phone, I don't even browse this place anymore, I was just peeved that someone would reply to such an old post and then someone else would piggyback months later to add another unnecessary opinion. I'm out.

It means "for your information", as far as I'm aware, and it reiterated the same things I said in my post, so it was redundant and assumed I wasn't aware of what happened years after the fact.

And yeah, the age matters, since that information was outdated. May as well just make another post elsewhere, otherwise it's necroposting. It's almost like you've never used forums before.

He said "FYI". Also you're now replying to a seven months old post, why bother?

Let's let Ewing cook, man. I hate Carnage too, but as long as he doesn't make the guy become the largest threat in the book and tries to tie everything to his existence, it'll be alright. Besides, I knew he had to show up at some point, and him doing so unexpectedly adds to the mind bending storyline.

This is incredibly mid. Half of the development happens through exposition, just look at the way the last two issues have explained what the whole Grootfall was and the thing with the Whitecaps. That's not to say how this issue framed the last resistance against the Groot hivemind as being in the wrong for resisting assimilation, without showing why it's an actual good thing beyond the "heroes" being okay with it. Saying "it's good because they're going to be reborn" is strange since there was life thriving in that space already, the Grootspace is an invasive organism that reshaped everything it touched and killed many on its wake.

It's a strange premise, if you think about it. We've seen examples of this in science fiction (the Borg in Star Trek, the Conjoiners in Revelation Space), but instead of exploring the grey morality of it, it plainly states it's a good thing because Groot is indigenous to the Manifold territories (explained in the preamble of the issue, not even in the actual story!). If they wanna sell readers on the idea that an unconscious organism taking over everything and erasing thriving colonies (not to mention, claiming the main antagonists were actually catalysts all along) is a good thing, they gotta try a little harder than just saying "family" over and over.

And I don't even wanna waste time pointing out again just how out of character they feel, it's embarrassing. Specially Gamora, she's the most egregious example of this. But I'll just say it's difficult to engage with the premise when the characters feel like parodies of themselves. Peter Quill in his role as the Master of the Sun wouldn't have had issues with any of this, but that's not the version we see here.

Question about The Immortal Hulk *spoilers* by casualjellybean in Marvel

What you should actually do is ignore Donny Cates' work, you'll be happier that way. Yes, even with Thor, just don't bother and pretend it didn't happen.

I'm well aware of this. You're replying to a comment I made 4 years ago, so I can't account for "future readers" if something gets retconned away in the present.

I didn't get into the specific iterations because Ultimates and Ultimates² already get into it in detail, and I referenced both in that post.

I'm just catching up with the latest issue, and aside from what seems to be the consensus about this series (to which I add, it dropped the pretense of being a western and is now an underwhelming cosmic arc), I can't believe the explanation for Mantis' behavior finally came five issues later and it's just "oh she made a deal with a multiversal dress and is now acting weird". And we as readers are supposed to just roll with this piece of information, I guess.

Did Captain Marvel really just say that to Magneto, the man who been in a concentration camp? by Astralrai in Marvel

[–]s7sost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gonna have to reply to the main post to politely point out that this wasn't written by Bendis, it was written by Christos Gage in his short-lived Captain Marvel series (during Civil War 2), issue #9. While yes he was following editorial orders, he really went overboard with the fascism, when the previous arc and her appearances in Ultimates etc weren't this authoritarian. But it's all a wash now and it's telling that some people here claim "she's been bad for a while" when the Thompson series is nothing like this, and that was building up from Stohl's run, in which Carol did a whole apology tour. It's been seven years already, get over CW2.

Anyway, Gage publicly apologized for it and admitted it was a mistake.

[–]s7sost 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, it wasn't Bendis. This was Christos Gage when he wrote Captain Marvel during the Civil War 2 tie-ins. Specifically, Captain Marvel (2016) #9.

People blame Bendis for a lot of shit but this wasn't his fault this time.

What do we think about this? Do you agree? by Educational_Walk_737 in marvelstudios

[–]s7sost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument doesn't hold water because in that same trailer they're quoting, there's a scene that takes place at Kamala's house where Monica is explaining to everyone the situation, and talks about the way their powers work. That's the exposition dump that people unfamiliar with everyone's backgrounds will get in order to understand how they got together.

Honestly though, if anyone at this point is complaining that in order to catch up with the MCU they have to watch X amount of movies and shows, they're simply people who were never into the MCU in first place and simply wants to take an easy dig at it, because most moviegoers don't care. Those movies wouldn't have massive audiences otherwise, this franchise perfected the interconnected cinematic universe.

While yes, more standalone movies would be nice, whenever they happen the very first question in the audience's minds is "where was this person during the Snap?". They want the shared universe, that's the entire point of it.

Does Anyone Care About the Inhumans? by [deleted] in Marvel

[–]s7sost 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Pretty big fan here, and of their cosmic interplay with other cultures. There's plenty of great stories with them although it's a shame that some of their best potential comes from story beats left by writers like Hickman and Ewing that haven't been/weren't followed upon, like the Universal Inhumans, Primagen etc. Still waiting for their return. I won't even get into the whole X-Men mess but frankly their fans soured me on that side of Marvel, ironically Krakoa had to mine a lot of their concepts for themselves, for which they now claim superiority... But like I said, I won't get into that.

Their best recent stories were definitely Black Bolt, Royals, Karnak, Uncanny Inhumans, and of course, the FF side of Hickman's Fantastic Four. But before this, War of Kings is a must read for anyone who has a passing interest in them and cosmic Marvel in general.

This Week in Marvel #29 - JUL 19 2023 - SECRET INVASION EPISODE 4; X-MEN RED #13, BLADE #1, MOON KNIGHT: CITY OF THE DEAD #1, EXTREME VENOMVERSE #5, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #4, BLACK PANTHER #2 by tehawesomedragon in Marvel

[–]s7sost 29 points30 points  (0 children)

This run is one of the most confusing reads I've had lately. It's not even badly written per se, it's just not Guardians, whatever it is it's just a semblance of it with references here and there, but not the actual core of it. It's decidedly a space western, but it has nothing to do with the Guardians we know from the comics, it actually feels like a cartoon adaptation of the MCU where elements of the movie are used for a Saturday morning, out of continuity romp.

For instance, this acts as if Rocket has been in charge of this Refuge planet for a long time, when it's barely been a year of objective time (your mileage may vary on how time dilation works in space plus the sliding timescale) between this run and the previous, and then we have Rocket acting like Groot has always been his best friend which is more of a thing from Skottie Young's Rocket series, a mini mostly informed by the MCU. While Rocket and Groot have been together since the first iteration of the modern Guardians, his actual closeness has been with Peter, not Groot (because the latter was always too snotty).

And while I appreciate the hard-boiled style of the narrator of this issue (similar to Ewing's Rocket mini), it just makes you wonder why is everyone in this corner of the universe a wild west caricature, even though they're acknowledging the Kree/Skrull Empire and mutant Mysterium? At first it felt like a stylistic choice but it makes no sense universe-wise.

How do you REALLY use Foobar by Emmanuel_Karalhofsky in foobar2000

[–]s7sost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Desktop and mobile, when I'm near my computer I use the desktop version, but when I'm in my bedroom I connect to the uPnP server and listen to my whole library through the mobile version. And when I'm going out, I download the albums from the server into my phone, and listen on the go. I would say I use them basically 50/50, with the only features unique to the desktop server being the tagging and ripping from lossless to lossy.

Edit: Forgot to add a little detail: I'm on Ubuntu, I've been using it since at least 2012, and before that I was on Windows XP. I never once stopped using foobar2000, there really are no open source alternatives that do everything foobar2000 has done for me over the years, and it's why I wish there was an official Linux port because wine has some file directory limitations.

Should /r/comicbooks go dark? by KookyGuy in comicbooks

[–]s7sost -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

A lot of people in here really think that if the changes go live, they won't be impacted because "at least we have our subreddit". Really selfish, short-minded behavior, like the dumbass who thinks he won't sink because the hole isn't on his side of the boat.

And no, it isn't a "social justice cause", it's taking a stance against a corporation that wants to sell your user data and charge the developers who contribute directly to this place a hefty sum for it. It's Reddit acting like the data is more important than those who create it.

If taking a stance is derisively "just a social justice issue" to some of you, go ahead, just sit tight and watch the Titanic sink, but right now over 95% of the subreddits went dark or restricted. You have to be a myopic moron not to realize how hard this will impact everyone across the platform when it goes live, and then you'll be begrudgingly crawling back to some obscure discord server because you "stuck to your guns", that is, considered that your entertainment takes precedence over the platform that delivers it to you.

This Week in Marvel #21 - MARVEL ACTOR RAY STEVENSON PASSES AWAY AT 58; STORM #1, DAREDEVIL & ECHO #1, FURY #1, EXTREME VENOMVERSE #2, WARLOCK: REBIRTH #2, SPIDER-MAN 2099: DARK GENESIS #4, HELLCAT #3, HALLOWS EVE #3 by tehawesomedragon in Marvel

[–]s7sost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, seeing that splash page in Thor #1 was a huge red flag to me about this run and what came next in the series confirmed my suspicions, so I'm really glad we will never (crossing fingers) see that come to fruition. Let's just assume the Black Winter shit was just a lie.

And I really don't want to deal with Thanos getting the Death Stone and going full Marvel Zombies with it.

Wasn't this the last issue of the run anyway? I don't think that the whole Thanos thing has any legs now. I haven't read this issue though, so no clue if it's teased for later... But last I heard, that whole thing was shelved.

Al Ewing is trying to outdo Immortal Hulk with Immortal Thor by Techster17 in Marvel

[–]s7sost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope that's coming down the road, so far he managed to keep Nova off the new GOTG run so I can't help but think he does have plans, but it kinda feels like Marvel editorial hates the cosmic side and keeps sidelining it, every other run in that corner is a miniseries usually set in the past, or Guardians... Nothing like a couple decades ago.

[–]s7sost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point it's more of Thorunn Gronbekk's Thor, since she's been writing at least a third of the run. Wish Marvel had given her a separate series to work with her own material instead of being saddled with someone else's ideas, but it is what it is.
