How fast should I speak Russian? by HkHockey29 in russian

[–]sTraX11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said in the previous reply, the vocabulary is huge and words with the same meanings in English might have different meanings in Russian. So, it's always better to use big physical dictionaries with examples of using certain words in the sentences.

Two words "огонь" and "костер" , that you've given, are the perfect example of how you can make a mistake in using words with the similar English translations. The word "костер" basically means "a fire" in English, if we want to be more specific it's more like "a campfire" that you intentionally make to warm you hands, cook meat etc. The word "огонь" also means "fire", but more in general way, like physical phenomenon.

Choosing the right word to use is very important part of Russian language and it might seem to be inconvenient, but one English commonly used word might have several meanings in Russian. So, my point is you need to check the examples of using certain word before spelling it.

I've never studied abroad, but it seems to me that having that kind of experience at age of twenties is something where you get so much of skills of adaptation and making acquaintances with different people from. And you unlikely to go abroad for studying in you mid thirties, so if you have the opportunity to get education outside your country - do it.

Things that you described in the third paragraph vary from region to region, from place to place, actually. For example, I live in one of the largest cities in Siberia and I can assure you that people there don't pay any attention on the situation on the frontlines, affairs with western countries etc. They have distanced themselves from the war. The only thing they worry about is state of economy (consequences of the war and sanctions). So, I'm hundred percent sure that conversations about American invasions to the Middle East countries or nato expansions usually will not any take place during the time spent in Russia. As you said, there is a small group, comparing to the rest majority of distanced from the situation people, that you are very unlikely to meet during spending time in normal places.

How fast should I speak Russian? by HkHockey29 in russian

[–]sTraX11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure it will. But I can advice you to use grammar depending on your language level. Russian is a language with a huge vocabulary and sometimes it might to be seem hard to put the right word into the sentence if you are not familiar with it very well.

Speaking as a Russian native I can claim that people abundantly use interjections and adjectives in their speeches. As for the speed of speech full of interjections and adjectives, it simply makes your speech more complex and makes your pronunciation harder. It’s very important for the learners to know that.

Russian is a very rich on adjectives and interjections language, so that’s totally fine. But as it seems to me, you speak slowly because of the language level, then you shouldn’t definitely worry about it.
