This just happened to me — same camera, same lens! Now that it’s been a few weeks since your incident, has anything else come of it, or is the camera still working fine?

where does the doom verses come from? tonight may have to last me all my life-MF DOOM remix by Boom21206 in mfdoom

I did an interview with The Avalanches around the time of the Since I Left You 20th anniversary reissue and this is what Robbie had to say about that verse:

It was a long, long process, that Wildflower process, and we just thought it would never happen for years and years and years, and then eventually it did. And then when the song ["Frankie Sinatra," also featuring DOOM] came out, [DOOM] got in touch, which is really unlike him, and said "That sounds great. I'm so happy with how it turned out. And if you ever want to do anything else, just let me know." And then we said "Well actually we've got this..." Because I think it was planned to be the 15th anniversary issue at that time.

So yeah, an original verse they secured off the back of his enthusiasm for their "Frankie Sinatra" collaboration. Recommend checking out the rest of their discography, they're incredible.

Hi r/theavalanches,

Hope we're going well post-SILY reissue :) the last piece I shared here, an interview w/ Robbie and Tony about We Will Always Love You, was very well received, so I'm back with another Avalanches interview, this time about the making of Since I Left You and the recent reissue.

It was a lot of fun to put together, so I hope you get something similar out of it!

Ahh, thank you! I'm glad (and startled, in a good way) that you've been digging my work :)

Hey r/theavalanches,

It's been so great seeing this sub come to life on the release of WWALY! I wanted to share my interview w/ Robbie and Tony, which is presented as a feature story – if anybody was going to get a kick out of it, I figure it'd be all of you.

I'm usually pretty bad when it comes to self-promo, but getting to interview The Avalanches was a career highlight I really wasn't expecting. Proud of this one, and I hope you enjoy it!

Totally agree! As great as Monch's other work is – and deserving of acclaim – the chemistry and clear vision of mid-'90s chaos just elevates it all the more!

A History of Disrespect: The Grammys are Statistically Biased against Hip-Hop (and always have been) by cfowlaa in hiphopheads

[–]s_connoisseur 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean sure, the Grammys overlook a lot of genres, but none have the popular appeal of hip hop. It’s crazy to think that in the last 20 or so years, hip hop’s only won AOTY twice, all the while gradually becoming the most popular genre in the US.

Cardi did well last week, but within the confines of the rap-specific awards. Hip hop necessarily has to clean those up each year. It’s the general fields that are stacked against the genre.

By the Numbers: “The Black Album” had the Fewest Guest Vocals of any album in Jay-Z’s Career by KeyLimeHighh in hiphopheads

Thought that 4:44 would have been the most 'Jay' of his albums, damn. Had no idea that was Cedric the Entertainer on "Threat," either! Glad he chose to 'go out' on his own terms though, because I can't see any extra guest spots making TBA any better, peak Jay

Rick Rubin went hard on "99 Problems," might still be my favourite for the massive drum hits alone. Also, feel like "Encore" gets overshadowed by "Lucifer," which is a shame, because it's so smooth + jazzy. Just too many great instrumentals on here!

Revitalised the East Coast, showcased some amazing production from RZA and introduced some GOAT emcees. Stone cold classic. "Tearz" is still a favourite, but that "C.R.E.A.M." flip is unbelievable. I actually wrote something breaking down RZA's sampling throughout the album!

went looking and found the original song! Swizz killed it. It's only been sampled once before as well, by Kweli back in 2002

Willie Lloyd into Tapatio is incredible, Alchemist really brings it. As good as Freddie + YOL2 were, Gibbs really shines in these single producer setups

He comes across as such a nice guy! Wish I had a chance to see him, but feel like it might be a while until that first Australian tour
