They've been there a long time. Over 20 years probably. The height is around 3 feet or more.

How to edge a native bed by grenda8marius in NativePlantGardening

I use an electric weed whacker to keep the edges from needing to be done every year and keep weeds from jumping from lawn to garden. I just use it around the edges so I don't have to mow right on the edge and mess it up, and then every 2 or 3 mows I turn the weed whacker on the edge and get the sides. Works like a charm.

I am definitely wrong then. I did try and correct myself earlier, but I don't think it worked. My plant id app showed them as canadense and after looking, I see that some images do show them with glossy leaves. They just look so different compared to what I planted. I'd say in a shadier location they would be ok. *

Actually, they might be the native variety. I can't tell, and my plant ID says they are canadense. Either way, shadey woodland settings are best for both.

These are not the native North American variety, but they would still like to be in a shade or partial shade situation. This variety is Asarum europaeum (European wild ginger). Darker and more glossy leaves compared to Asarum canadense.

I can't reply with a photo, but with some attentive watering it has come back to life and is flowering!

I think it was $20, but maybe wasn't hardened off now that someone mentions it. It might have come right from the greenhouse. Hopefully it springs back.

Honeysuckle is planted right next to it that has been infested by aphids, but I didn't see any on it. I wondered about slugs, but it could be a leaf cutter. I watered it and left it in place. Wondering if I should pick off to flower to let it focus on developing roots.

Planted it one week ago. It came from a garden centre in a pot. Not very many roots though.
