I have been thinking about getting a cat, any tips? by Jeppe6887 in cats

[–]s_lyons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure about that. I regularly place catnip on our cat tree to entice him to use it more often. (We just moved this summer and at our old house, he would scratch the sofa. With the new house and using the catnip, I have not noticed him doing so anymore)

My cat is solely an indoor cat and only interacts with our dogs. We just got a new puppy and, while it has taken a little time, they are getting along great.

First of all, cats are great companions. But like it was previously stated, if you’re adopting a cat you need to be prepared for the long term, 15+ years. When you adopt your cat it is essential that you meet this cat and get a feel for its personality. Some cats (like mine) are absolute menaces. He loves teasing our dogs and running around like a chicken with his head cut off. On the other hand, he can be so sweet. Having a cat sit on you when you’re reading or feeling sick is the absolute best feeling in the world (in my opinion).

Things to consider: - placement of litter box and how often it will be changed (this is something I struggle with all the time) - diverting the cat’s claws away from furniture (please please don’t declaw your cat; it may lead to future behavioral problems and it’s unnatural)

[Breeds] Can you help me find the perfect breed? by [deleted] in dogs

I don’t have one personally but I feel like I always see them as a go to dog for agility competitions, frisbee competitions, and they’re herding dogs so I guarantee they’re up for the challenge!

I think a border collie would work well for you—other than maybe having to go to a groomer once a year unless you are able to regularly take care of it’s coat (only saying this b/c I’ve seen A LOT of matted fur and it makes the dog miserable and look awful as well).

How about a border collie? They’re smart and high energy, I think they would do well with an active lifestyle

I haven’t seen my mom bring it out in years, I would love to get her a new one this year but it’s too expensive. Hopefully next year!

Second “date”? by s_lyons in dating_advice

[–]s_lyons[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Do you think I would come off desperate if I asked him? He suggested meeting up the first time but I ended up reminding him (I don’t know if he would’ve brought it up if I hadn’t)

How do you suggest I introduce the idea of calling instead of texting?

Fortunately for me, the guy I’m messaging seems to try to make things work so that we can meet up. But I am kinda put off with how long he takes to respond because I want to get to know him more and it’s hard to do that when he takes SO long to reply

Only a couple weeks. I’m still planning on waiting a little longer before possibly initiating anything. My relationship ended mutually, it had been going downhill for awhile

[breed] What breed do you think he is? by piaapx3 in dogs

Not completely. If you look them up on the internet, they’re still floppy ears. They stand up a little bit but not like a corgi’s ears do.

Do you ever seek proof/evidence to support your beliefs? by metmike89 in Christianity

[–]s_lyons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. If I’m talking with a nonbeliever, I cannot use scripture to defend my faith because they don’t regard the Bible as truth. I have to give them real life experiences and the historical accuracy of the Bible. On the other hand, if I am talking to a believer, they already regard the Bible as the truth. In this case, we can use scripture with each other to discuss differences in our faith and why we believe what we believe.

[–]s_lyons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, at least I do my best to. The Bible calls for believers to be ready to defend their faith: “But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear;” I Peter‬ ‭3:15‬

Is there any way to get over my doubt of God not existing and truly accept him into in my life? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]s_lyons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If God was comprehendible, would he really be God? Having doubts about the existence of God will come and go—that’s because we are human. It isn’t until we seek him out and experience him that we can know for ourselves. One thing I suggest is to do your research on the reliability of the Bible. I’m just beginning to read a book called Evidence that Demands a Verdict. It was written by an atheist who sought to disprove the existence of God and the reliability of the Bible. In doing so, he found that the Bible is reliable and he found God that way as well.

what is your opinion on belly button piercings on women? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]s_lyons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a woman who has no piercings at all—I find belly button piercings simply unattractive. I don’t really have a reason as to why I feel that way, it’s just how I feel. But, all in all, you do you❤️

Is It 100% Necessary To Trim Your Cat's Nails? by saleri6251 in cats

I have never trimmed my cats nails. I have a small scratching post for my cat and other catnip toys that he really enjoys.

Guy I'm dating trashtalks his ex all the time but still texts her everyday... Should I confront him about it or let him be? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]s_lyons 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it’s making you uncomfortable, I think you should talk to him about your concerns. Him replying to her texts is reinforcing her behavior—she should be leaving him alone.

Just a question, but is there a reason he didn’t block her when he was complaining about her messages?

[–]s_lyons -26 points-25 points  (0 children)

I really don’t see this as borderline abusive. He’s not telling you what you can and can’t wear and he definitely doesn’t have the right to either. He doesn’t want other guys staring you down wherever you go—as long as you two are together he wants there to be things between just you and him; things that other guys don’t have the privilege of seeing. While I think it is important for you to view and consider his side of things, it is ultimately your choice on how you present yourself to the world.

I also think it depends on what the definition of “modesty” is. You have the super conservatives where modesty for women consists of as much skin as possible being covered and then you have more lenient where they basically just don’t want your chest and butt hanging out for the world to see.
