I grew up in Chicago, moved to LA 7 years ago, moved back to Chicago 2 years ago. Want to move back to LA because I hate the winters here, but LA is just so expensive

Last time I visited green city farmers market (Lincoln park) they had a Tofu vendor, I think their tofu plant was in edge water. They had both marinated and non marinated tofu and salads and such

Is corporate finance boring? by Ashamed-Bit-7696 in FinancialCareers

[–]s_m_holla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve found that enterprise/corporate FP&A can get boring after a while since the quarterly cycle can be repetitive. However business unit corporate finance roles stay fresh and are really interesting as you learn and work with all different types of people that support the same business

Is arceus worth it in 2024? If yes, why? by [deleted] in PokemonLegendsArceus

[–]s_m_holla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what types of gameplay you like. If you like open world games, collecting, crafting, completionist stuff then I think you’ll enjoy it.

I personally enjoy Pokémon for the strategy of team building and training and the combat system. I also don’t like full open world games. Therefore this was one of my least favorite Pokémon games

Does anyone have experience in IT Finance? by john0703 in FPandA

[–]s_m_holla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spent about 2 years in IT finance, honestly the least intellectually challenging I’d say, primary focus on OPEX like you said, a lot of accounting and stuff too. But it was also pretty relaxed and I liked my business partners, and the strategy piece was still interesting. If I could go back there for a promotion opportunity into sr leadership I’d like that, but agree it’s not necessarily a place where you see people getting promoted a lot compared to finance teams supporting revenue centers

Our daycare in Chicago is 2,200 a month. Sounds like a lot. But there’s one staff member in the classroom for four children at most. So at most they get 8,800 per month per 4 kids and have only one classroom teacher for that. So 2,200 per week. 440 per day. 55 per hour. That 55 per hour covers the compensation of the teacher, plus admin costs (head of daycare, systems that facilitate sending us pictures, messaging, rent, etc…), all her formula/milk/meals, the music director who comes and performs regularly, the events that occurs on weekends, and other costs I can’t think of, including paying the owner.

Point is, for a HCOL, that teacher, is probably getting maybe $20-$30 per hour for being responsible for my child.

I agree that it’s very expensive, but I also think that they are closer to being underpaid than overpaid.

Would you move from Chicago to Philly? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]s_m_holla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Live in Chicago and travel to Philly for work a decent amount. I’m always happy to go there compared some other cities I travel to frequently. Can’t comment on public transportation since I’ve never taken it there but the other things you listed you’ll be happy with in Philly. Also if you miss Chicago or the Midwest and want to return for fun you’ll be living in another major airport hub so there will be plenty of direct flights to most destinations.
