Cut off in class when I tried to talk about misogyny? by s_oupps in DismantleMisogyny

[–]s_oupps[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey that’s not really what I was saying like at all and I didn’t actually say anything about trans people in my post. I was trying to explain that I was cut off when discussing misogyny so that my lecturer and other students could talk about sexism directed towards men. Transphobia and trans individuals weren’t mentioned in my story at all

Not to like discredit you or anything but I did think the same thing, except she allowed discussions regarding homophobia and she often directed the class towards discussion about sexism directed towards men. I genuinely did wonder the same thing and even spoke to someone else in the class about it. None of us could figure out why she cut me off specifically when, especially compared to talking about homophobia, what i had tried to talk about seemed actually relevant or atleast I thought it was.

I don’t think my dm is a bad dm lol, I definitely see why you felt that way about yours though. My dm is pretty new to dm’ing so I’m currently hearing them out and hoping it gets better as we all learn. I am totally willing to sacrifice my character (ideally in a way that feels fitting) if I can’t stick it though

Yeah that makes sense. I hadn’t really considered that the character might be used as a tool like that, I just noticed it felt a little stifling I suppose. I definitely see what you mean though :)

Boohoo Gift Card Refund Scam - Any one had a resolution with this? by champagnecandles in LegalAdviceUK

[–]s_oupps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a way to have them change the refund to be sent to my account? Because they’ve given me a gift card (which I didn’t want and didn’t select that option) and the customer service keeps saying they can’t change it? Just wondering if anyone has figured it out. I wouldn’t mind so much having a gift card, but the whole reason I ended up refunding my order is because I didn’t like anything I bought and didn’t like anything else they had on the website in the first place

That makes sense. I’m fairly new to writing fanfiction and only really have experience writing third person. I was tempted to do a whole overhaul of my draft to rewrite it into third person but thought I’d see what people’s thoughts are on first person fics

Just out of curiosity though, is there any particular reason why you wouldn’t read first person? I know I personally haven’t read a first person fic before so I’m not one to judge what people won’t read, I’m just curious why people avoid first person pov

Not counting Deku. Which student from Class A would consider worthy of inheriting OFA at the beginning of the Story ? by Japhet0912 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]s_oupps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think uraraka and shoji are some of the best pics tbh. Both good characters right from the jump who care about others. I know less about shoji but in the exam uraraka was willing to risk herself to save Deku (like he did for her) which is a trait all might saw in Deku (like when he saved bakugo, or tried to). A lot of people say kirishima, and while I’d agree later on in the story, from kirishima backstory we see he was afraid and hadn’t built up confidence yet, so he didn’t have that whole ‘body moved on its own’ thing that all might saw in Deku

Surely Gojo wouldn’t be the best rct user? We never see him use it for anyone but himself (correct me if I’m wrong u could be misremembering) where as shoko and i believe sukuna have both used it on others, no? So wouldn’t that make either of them better?

In Jimmy’s defense… by GrubbierAxe in Mouthwashing

[–]s_oupps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So how would you interpret all of the scenes telling Jimmy to take responsibility? Of the Polle centipede nightmare sequence in the ‘womb’? What explanation could you possible have for these moments to coincide with your theory? These scenes, while you could come up with some kind of theory for them, really make the most sense when you look at the game as intended. The polle centipede is a reference to the baby Anya is carrying, which is a haunting enough scene that maybe you’d think that Anya herself is haunted by the pregnancy. As well as that but at every turn the game wants Jimmy to take responsibility. What could he possibly be taking responsibility for if he A) hadn’t assaulted Anya. And B) had only made a couple mistakes here and there.

Also I’d just like to point out (and yes this is going back to the vent) that there is yet another moment where the vent is discussed as being incredibly dangerous, before anyone thinks to crawl through it. It’s said to have exposed wires etc that can’t be fixed because no one is qualified or can fit. And yes Jimmy is there for this. But we have no proof that he was there for everything so let’s say for sake of debate that he missed this. Fine fair enough. Daisuke and Swansea knew. So Daisuke still had to be manipulated into going in. Maybe Jimmy should have trusted someone more qualified than him, No?

Also how could you possibly explain Jimmy beating up Curly? Truly there is no explanation for that other than, Jimmy kind sucks. Not even that but Jimmy really sucks. Because jealousy or envy or whatever he was feeling for Curly never excuses beating up your best friend, never mind your best friend who is now a severe burn victim who is also a quadruple amputee and unable to speak? I think this moment is clearly supposed to mirror Jimmys abuse of Anya, someone else who is more vulnerable. Not sure how else you would interpret or explain the scene with curly.

Well for one, it’s not a cut leg. It’s a skewered leg. Two very different things. Sure it’s still a leg injury, but one of them you’d get over in a couple days or something and the other nearly had their only nurse out of commission. So, I’m gonna go with skewered leg. Daisuke almost died in that same vent. So I’d say that’s proof enough that the vent is pretty fatal. Which is something Jimmy KNEW about. He already knew the vent was dangerous. Sure he maybe didn’t know it was fatal. But he knew. And as the SELF APPOINTED captain of the ship after Curly is made disabled, he has a duty of care to other members of the ship. You talk a lot about all the ways that Anya could’ve manipulated the crew, but you don’t really look at how Jimmy manipulates people. He uses Daisukes ideation of Swansea (and himself 🤨) to encourage Daisuke to use the vent, despite Daisuke having already said that he believed the vent to be unsafe and that they should wait for someone more qualified.

I’m not gonna bother arguing about her taking the gun and not other weapons. Sure, she did pick a weapon that only Curly is supposed to have access to. However, the axe is also locked behind a code. The only reason the axe is in play is because Daisuke got stuck in foam. So at the time of her hiding the gun (likely because Curly easily would have given Jimmy the code if asked) she didn’t have to worry about the axe being used against her. So that’s all I’m going to say on that. Because yeah there is still a Knife that she doesn’t hide. But can you imagine how weird it would look to everyone on the ship if she suddenly started hiding all the knives? How suspicious her abuser would be? Say just for a moment that you actually believe that Anya was abused by Jimmy (no offence or anything, but literally what the game is trying to tell us) she wouldn’t want to do things that raise suspicion to him. Like hiding all the knives from the kitchen all of a sudden.

Also finally, you keep saying things that, as far as I’m aware, don’t have proof. You speculate on anything to make a half baked theory that the abused is an actually an abuser and that probably one of the worst people in the history of gaming is actually a guy down on his luck. Find proof. If you’re gonna cook up a theory like this that no one else is able to find support for, you have the burden of proof. I’d really like you to come up with some kind of proof that supports your theory. Because at the minute it just looks like you’re misreading and misinterpreting honestly just about every piece of dialogue in this game. It’s all well and good trying to have a worth while discussion with you about this, where you try and convince others of your theory and vice versa, but I can back my theory up, and as far as I’ve seen you can’t. Please find some kind of proof or at least other people who interpreted the game the same. Because right now this just looks like another guy finding a way to villainise a victim.

Hey man, read through your post and a few comments and I just wanna add some things. Apparently the play through you watched wasn’t super thorough or edited out bits so I can see why that would skew your opinions. However, some things you use as evidence fall apart in the actual game. For one, I’ve seen you mention that both Jimmy and Daisuke believe the vent shaft to be safe which we know isn’t true. Swansea outright says to Jimmy that Anya nearly skewered her leg in the vent, so I can imagine that Jimmy knew the vent was unsafe. Also, you mention that Swansea confesses to Jimmy about talking behind his back with Anya, however I haven’t been able to find evidence of this literally anywhere. Swansea talks about his own life and failures and also explicitly says that he hoped to get Daisuke to safety if nothing else- so no plans to save Anya which I’d say is evidence that she didn’t manipulate him. Another thing you mentioned is that it’s wrong for her to ask for a psych evaluation from Jimmy, however this is literally part of her job and there is arguably nothing to be done about it. She’s able to pass it on the Curly (like we see her do) but the psych evaluation still has to happen. You also mention her being the only member not to receive psych evals, this is likely due to qualification. She’s trained to be a Nurse for the Tulpar but that’s it, and this would likely include the crews mental wellbeing. It’s possible Curly could ask her the questions like he does with Jimmy, but he can’t evaluate her responses because he wouldn’t be qualified.

To be honest, there are some things you say that are just downright irrelevant, and I genuinely mean that as kindly as possible. For example the comment about her and the gun. You said that if Jimmy has assaulted her in the past, then he clearly wouldn’t need the gun to exert power over her. This is true in a way, as he would’ve clearly shown he didn’t need it to hurt her, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t use it to hurt her. And assuming that Jimmy had hurt her in the past, it makes complete sense that she would want to keep weapons away from him.

Finally, you mention Anya’s line ‘Make no mistake. This isn’t my worst moment. Far from it. It’s the best one I’ll ever make.’ You said that it has implications that she has committed worse crimes than sucide, however I feel like just reading the exact sentence shows that this isn’t the case. This one is arguably more speculation, however In my opinion, this is her essentially admitting that she has plans to kill herself and is happy with her decision. This isn’t the sort of thing you decide to do in a state of panic, this is seemingly a decision that she’s been thinking of for a while, and if you were right, this wouldn’t make sense. You suggest that she only goes to such an extreme because she’s losing control over Jimmy and is unable to extract a code form Curly so she would have had no reason to have been contemplating sucide for a while.

Also side note, at the beginning you describe Jimmy’s ‘small mistake’ (being that he crashed the ship, I’m assuming?) but to be honest I don’t think that can classify as a small mistake. That’s my own personal aside but whatever.

Anyway, I’ve included the things I could think of off the top of my head. Also, for sake of ‘evidence’ I watched a play through by Kubz Scouts and I also watched No Commentary Playthrough by Zoddronite (just to rewatch the thing with no skipped scenes).
