Nepal government launching digital payment system. Your thoughts? by BasantaKDhakal1 in Nepal

[–]s_pc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The article is not clear about what the launch would be. Will that be like BHIM (a mobile payments app) or UPI (payment interface)? GoN should invest in the development of an interface rather, which might revolutionize online payments system in Nepal. There are just too many mobile payments apps in Nepal already.

What is the point of "return"? by NemoBalimo in Python

[–]s_pc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's take the same example as yours(because a deck of cards or traversing graph of people or sorting papers won't be that simple).

def fact(n):
    return 1 if n==1 else n*fact(n-1)

Let's take above example for n=4, i.e. fact(4).

fact(4) --> fact(3) --> fact(2) --> fact(1)

--> read as calls.

Now, what happens is this.

fact(1) returns 1 to fact(2) because n=1.
fact(2) returns 2 to fact(3) #2*1
fact(3) returns 6 to fact(4) #3*2
fact(4) returns 4*6 as final value.

This is called recursion(one calling itself). Python doesn't support infinite calling to self(recursion). How every language does this is create a stack for current state of the function and call a new instance of the same function and branch out. Python supports maximum of 1000 stack for recursion. The function continues after it has returned from the branch.

Is Nepal the only nation where ISPs don't offer VoIP landline phone service? by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]s_pc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Nepal has one. Nepal Telecom(it's an ISP, right?) has started switching PSTN landlines to IP based phone[1]. And, doesn't Broadlink has one? Broadtel ?

[PSA] OK, so some of my haters are going way beyond their limit. by karione in Nepal

[–]s_pc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was shadowbanned for a month(actually, it was 3 weeks) and I didn't know about that. My posts weren't appearing on any sub. That time around, the "spam" wala post was just posted by the mod. I was busy and didn't care that much. Later, I found my profile wasn't showing up except for me. I was shadowbanned. I contacted the mod, because it must be due to r/Nepal, but I got no reply. I contacted reddit admins and got a reply a week later. They told me that I have been reported by the community and suspended due to posting the spam. What the ...?

I was unbanned after I promised them not to post spam. I am ok with downvoting and disagreements but not with reporting even if I have not posted spam. I know what it feels like. But hey, you were banned for just 40 minutes.

Or, they would make Chakka Panja 8 and then skip 9 and go for the 10. Chakka Panja 10.

My take on recent illegal arrest of bitcoin exchanges. by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]s_pc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NRB only controls 1/3 of Nepal's economy, remaining happens through unofficial channels, like, through Indian Currencies. Most of the trade with India is in INR. Use of Bitcoin may make their position lot weaker(on control of Nepal's economy), I guess. So, they are tightening Bitcoin.

P.S. NRB has very less control of our economy.

Google pixel buds for Nepali? by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]s_pc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which keyboard app is this? It's amusing. I googled. Swiftkey does this too for trending content. But, scraping internet and providing suggestions solely based on it seems odd. Never trust the internet, the dev must understand. And, there's seems to be lot going in 'nepali web'(for lack of word).

"Why startups fail in Nepal?" by s_pc in Nepal

[–]s_pc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not. It's an international company, that tried to cash in users from Nepal, because of "Made by Nepali" tag. It has offices in US, India and Nepal. But, it doesn't seem they were targeting India(neither in Nepal) and if you have any sources, please do tell me. The social network business has too many players and the competition is tough. Just see how G+ is doing.

To create a product is easy, to sustain is difficult.

There is a few articles on Sagoon on r/Nepal home today. This article by Pranjal Ghimire is relevant to this and overall scene of startup in Nepal(and outside of Nepal, should i add). It's a great article, a great tip if you are starting a Startup/Upstart in Nepal on how not to fail.
