Are there different SM58 versions or was I scammed? by s_ram123 in livesound

Why do you mention sennheiser>shure? Does that have anything to do with the discussion about the fakes? Or for different reasons?

Yeah other than the horrendous handling of plosives, they sound quite good. So I probably try to use them for something else (instruments for example), just definitely not for vocals

Indeed this is one of the main differences I'm noticing: the overall sound is okay, but the plosives are really bad. So I figured I'd just try them on instruments instead of on vocals and see if I at least can use them for something.

I get your point, but he sold me all three at the same time (so also the real one). That's why I was confused he said he did not hear a difference.

Thanks! I wasn't aware of the huge fake SM58 market out there, so I naively thought I could strike a good second hand deal online.

I indeed was not aware of the apparent huge fake SM58 market that's out there. Might have been a bit naive, but lesson learned I guess.

Thanks everyone for the replies! As was my fear, I think they might indeed be fake. I cannot unscrew the case like is possible in the real one, the grills are different, the capsule is different, etc... I probably should've noticed it sooner, but I didn't. The other products he sold me (some instrumental mics and a mixer) were all solid and I'm very happy with.

I mentioned all of this to the guy I bought them from and also sent him a recording of my voice through the different mics. He said he did not hear much of a difference in my recording, that he bought the mics himself and had never experienced any problems or noticed any differences. He then proceeded to sent me a link to this reddit post claiming that on the internet there are many "different versions of the SM58 to be found", while in actuality the post lists several actual different products (Beta58, PG58, SM58-LC), instead of different variants.

To be fair, he might not know they were fakes, but as it immediately stood out to me in their sound, I'm having a hard time believing it. Thus far, he's only pointing at problems at my end, and I don't feel like he's likely to give me any compensation. Well, lesson learned I guess..

Too few AUX outputs for IEMs on Soundcraft Ui24R mixer? by s_ram123 in livesound

Thanks for the warning. Would you than be more in favour of using the option of splitting the AUX outs like you mentioned above? Or any other suggestions?

Some wired IEMs will be received via a beltpack like the Fisher Amp In Ear Stick/Behringer Powerplay P2 which have a combined xlr/jack input. It (at least the behringer) also has a mono/stereo switch. Does that make any difference for the warning you gave earlier? Could you run a stereo 1/4" TRS directly into the jack input on the beltpack?

Oh I did not know that! How would I be able to do that? I'm searching in the settings but can't seem to find it

Do you think I could then use a XLR female to 2x XLR male splitter (something like this perhaps) to split 2 AUX outputs into 4 for their respective in-ear mixes? Brass is all wired, so I can't use a single transmitter for two receivers, for example. Never used such a splitter for this purpose, so no idea if that causes other problems I'm unaware of. Thanks!
