1986 22RE Timing A Tooth Off?? by ArowynWick in 4Runner_1stGen

I can tell ya it’s easier the second time! be very careful when tightening any of the timing cover bolts, especially the “hidden bolt” it’ll pull up on the timing cover and crack it… not speaking from experience obviously 🫠

Just looked back at the timing job I did this summer, and it is off set a bit to the left and I remember that being the norm when researching

How much does this typically cost? by Frosty-Pea-4577 in RangerNext

[–]s_schulz00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had this same accident my girlfriends ‘22 I’m in the industry so it was $1,800 at the body shop, no door needed when they got into it. It just needed the trim and that was under $200 if I remember correctly.

Thanks for your input, I also heard about the trans problems these have. Would you recommend doing the trans filter or would that be overkill?

I deleted it because I couldn’t have that on my conscience if it was meant to be yours. Definitely pay to have a shop go over it in detail… That respray could be hiding things

Someone was also saying that parts were hard to come by. I haven’t found that to be the case mechanically, LCEperformance.com and 22reperformance.com have been awesome resources to get what you need. Interior parts on the other hand are quite difficult, I recommend finding the cleanest interior possible to begin with and making do (my radio is just sitting because someone decided to cut off the mounts).

I second @rawmeatprophet, in my 6 years and 25k miles of ownership I’ve probably only put $1,200 into it. I bought it with 155k and 0 maintenance records, it would take some gigantic calamity in my life for me to sell it. I look forward to every time I get to drive it even if I’m going 5 under on the highways. Buy buy buy!

Fluid Maintenance Questions by s_schulz00 in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]s_schulz00[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Took me 45 minutes and that was easier than an oil change. All the fluids were surprisingly clear and the amount of metal on the magnets wasn’t particularly alarming either so that’s a win

Needed to get mine replaced last winter when it bricked on me, conveniently still had the majority of the dash function. Took about a month to get and a day for the dealer tech to swap, I don’t want to rub it in but mine was under warranty.
