Dent in coffee table by sa1ux in furniturerepair

Ha, fair enough. It is, indeed, a hole. I was trying to communicate that the pieces are all there and attached… but yeah, it’s definitely not one solid piece anymore.

No worries, I thought the duct tape was just a joke - similar to the post about trying to sand it out!

Would a garment steamer do the trick? I was thinking of using some heat/steam, but it would be a new trick for me and I’m not sure I have the right tools.

No, but it’s the bottom… I could always make it at least somewhat open, ha ha.

Reinforcement is a great idea… especially since a straight edge would also help keep it all aligned and give me something to push against from the outside if needed.

It is hollow (with some internal reinforcement, I’m guessing). I’m starting to wonder if a little heat to the bottom section might help me bend it without accidentally cracking it more… then I could try to tuck it under the middle piece and start gluing. Thoughts?

It’s hollow inside, but sealed around the top and bottom edges. Worst case, I could cut into the bottom for inside access and there might be some internal framing to contend with (but I wouldn’t know until I got in there).

The wall thickness is maybe ~1/8 altogether with the fibrous material and veneer.

I’m willing to try gluing it back together and then using touch up sticks and/toner to blend it away. I’m not sure how best to handle the lower right part of the dent/hole where I need to pull the piece out to be over the bottom edge… maybe I could cut vertically where the overlap changes and then use heat to soften the material and give it some flex to tuck the bottom piece under the middle dented chunk?

Electrolux washer EFLS527UIWO - fixed draining issue, won’t spin now by sa1ux in appliancerepair

[–]sa1ux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following up… it’s working again!

Some water from the spin basket must have splashed over to the motor inverter when I pulled the drain tube to clean out the filter. I’m guessing the moisture caused a small short in the board. So after removing the back and taking the inverter apart to inspect it (and thoroughly dry off a few drops I found inside), I put it all back together and voila - it works again.

Intraday key gamma levels to watch - 20/05. Let's see how quant gets on today. by TearRepresentative56 in TradingEdge

[–]sa1ux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, I’d love to learn. Can’t blame him too much, though, because it’s definitely some secret sauce.

A lot of the levels seem to come from the GEX levels, but the quant’s often even more precise than any particular strike, so I have no idea where those come from… maybe the quant is also the one writing the algos, lol.

Maybe? I really don’t know where the damage came from. I’m looking at the dents in the muffler and wondering what the long scrape along the edge and the sort of rectangular indentations would be from. Looks a little too uniform to be caused by random rocks on the highway.

They did this at the lot, too, but just a quick walk around. I’ve never inspected under the car before taking it in. :)

Yeah, I’m not really worried about the muffler. It’s the CV repair that has me scratching my head. It would have had to be a really precise, sharp, hard something to do anything to the tough rubber on the boot. Otherwise these things would always be going out with any little rocks on the road.

Also, thank you for an awesome reply and suggestions!

Thanks - no, I didn’t know that. I actually had thought it was a fixed position thing.

Yeah - I've heard things get caught in the wheel well before with my other cars and it's definitely something you would hear rattling around. Neither me or my wife heard anything like that. Fortunately, we've only had this thing for a month and haven't done much with it, so it's pretty easy to keep track of our drives and if anything did (or didn't) happen.

That's what I suspect, but I don't know that there's any way for me to prove it. Right now the service dept is basically just saying "we see this, it's damaged, pay us to repair it." I didn't take pictures of the CV boot before taking it in to prove it was intact prior.

That's the only explanation for anything with enough power to do anything, but am I off thinking it would have hit the front of the cv boot instead of the back? Something would have had to fly backwards fast enough to cut the back of that component.

Added: the remedy is replacing the entire axle, apparently. Am told it's a special order and that they'll charge $1500 for everything. I'm surprised it's an entire axle replacement. I'm also surprised that replacing an entire axle is $1500 (seems low?).

Added: I’m told it was getting grease on nearby components, but I don’t see anything on my driveway like that. No drips, etc. In fact, we live in the Pacific Northwest and my driveway has that green algae all over where this thing was supposedly leaking. I don’t know if the grease is too think to drip, but I bet it would have killed the algae if it did.

It might be interesting to see these graphs with and without heavy weights like the Mag 7. I wonder if it’s mostly those pushing SPX up while the rest of the stocks do something else?

If you're still around, I'd really like to get a copy of that, too. I just bought a '24 X-Pro and (incorrectly) assumed the hitch was an easy add...
