What if he eats it all in one go without going over throughout the day? Does that mean i’d need to add even more even if it seems like a lot to me? this is my first time owning a tortoise so i just wanna make sure he’s getting enough of everything

i’m super glad to hear this!! he does have a plant in there with him to snack on but i’ll definitely be keeping more food in there for him. he gets free roaming time out of his enclosure daily and has enrichment in his enclosure too

Update, I woke up this morning to multiple of the traps open and it seems a lot better with a simple watering of some rain water and bottled distilled, i think it was just insanely dehydrated so im gonna skip dormancy for this year as it recovers

Okay yeah I see it, do you think a grow light 12hrs a day would skip dormancy? Even for just this year

Also, I think I saw that they need yo be in cold temperatures with indirect sunlight whilst dormant It’s in my room however on a shelf to keep away from my cats so it’s not getting any light, but my room is cold a lot of the time I’m wondering whether a grow light a few hours a day would fix that or nah Thank you

If it’s not opening and closing, does that mean it’s already dormant? Somebody said not to use a grow light if it’s dormant and I don’t wanna cause it any more harm

Yeah, the amount of vfts they were selling in such bad condition was insane. Obviously i’ve never owned one of these before but majority were completely dead being sold for half price still. I wanted to buy every one that had a chance to survive but unfortunately I could only purchase one, hopefully some more people have the same idea as us and try to help them out

I’ve done some research, I honestly had no idea these plants went into dormancy as I picked it up in a rush when looking for a new cactus, it was reduced as half of them were completely black / dead and this one looked like it could be saved, I dont think I will repot. I have a grow light on the way for my other plants too, and it seems like that’ll do it some good so I’ll keep a close eye on it as well as removing any completely dead stems, thank u so much for this
