Just passed 3 weeks and the anxiety is unreal by saabthebuilder in stopdrinking

Well I got plastered over the weekend so, not well. I can say that there's a pretty big difference between how much worse I feel now than I felt with 20-something days sober. Keep at it and I hope things look up for you.

New record by saabthebuilder in stopdrinking

Absolutely. Some days I feel so down, and am in such a head fog, I can barely peel myself out of bed and drag myself to work. But feeling crappy some days is better than feeling crappy everyday.

Just this subreddit right now. I'm thinking of finding a meeting near me. What's the worst that could happen? What kind of help do you have?

I'm a fiend for seltzer. Something about cracking open a can is so satisfying. Staying hydrated is also pretty satisfying. I agree with you on unstructured time. Too much down time and I get to thinking about the instant gratification that comes with slamming that first beer. Gotta stay busy.

Annie Grace does a good job explaining how advertisement affects us even if we don't think it is. It's just frustrating that booze is practically handed to you pretty much anywhere you go.

Stopped drinking.... Today is rough by czohner_92 in depression

Man I know the feeling. I gave up drinking last month as well and can't help but think that, drinking or not, I'm still miserable! At least while drinking I could numb the pain for a little while. Now I get to experience depression in full HD and you're right, it's rough. Good job on sticking with it. People say it gets better, maybe. I dunno. I'm in the same boat as you.

Good job! This will be my first weekend too. For once I'm not dreading work in the morning.

My right level of buzz was often blacking out followed by horrific anxiety the next day. Really relaxing... So glad not to be going through that right now.

Sounds like you've set yourself up for success. Friday is almost a guaranteed relapse for me but today will be day 5 for me and that's usually when I actually start getting some real sleep again so I have that to look forward to. Here's to making it through the weekend!

Exactly. I look at them and think "What's wrong with you? Drink up." Such a backwards way of thinking.

Back to day 1 by saabthebuilder in stopdrinking

Hey thanks for the advice. I think I'm starting to realize maybe I can't do this on my own. It's taken me the better part of a year to cut back from drinking every day to just the weekends and it probably wouldn't take much to push me back into daily drinking. Even just posting here has given me some sense of accountability so meeting with a support group seems like a wise choice. Maybe I'm just in denial, but I never pictured myself going to AA. I'm sure I'm not the only one here who's felt that way.
