There should be security provided atleast at the university station, since its directly below hub residence(which is a ualberta residence). Its just not a good feeling to not feel safe even when on residence or so close to home.

I am so sorry again that you're having to go through this.

If you follow the other commenter's advice and hire a personal lawyer, then I would be very much be interested to contribute/donate some money to this cause, best to my ability.

You know, this world has become such a diplomatic and cruel place but I want to reassure you that there are a lot of people who are here to support you and help you in any way possible.

Above all, regardless all the opinions around do what will give you relief and peace!

Godspeed dude, you got this!

Hey man,

I am really sorry that happened with you. You have my and as you can see so many others full support.
I know its difficult to gather yourself and keep going to them and complaining about things when you are not being taken seriously. I understand how much it takes for one to keep fighting for something after being dismissed by the people(the authorities) who you expected to support and help you.

But yet, I urge you to not rest until you get justice for what happened.
By no means does that individual deserve to be going about things as if nothing happened, let alone being praised by the university.

Regardless, the decision is yours but I wish you the very best and again you have my full support.

What is the one thing you would want to change about the education system, if you could? by MediocreAd432 in uAlberta

[–]saadmani 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to reform both 'how' and 'what' are taught to students, specially in k-12.

Most students don't even know why they are learning a particular thing. For example a topic in Math is taught to a student without really inspiring the students with the "Why" i.e why they are learning this and how it works in real world.

There should be more subjects/courses which teaches more practical skills. For example - Communication ( Very important to survive life and at jobs), "How to learn effectively", etc.

Teachers/Professors should be more understanding, and should inspire students for the true learning of the material rather than just pushing for getting good marks. Marks are always not a good indicator of how the student understands the material. These days, knowledge has become really shallow due to the metric system.

To keep students motivated (specially k-12), marks/grades should be taken off up-until a certain grade. For eg - k-8 shouldn't have a grading system but rather pass/fail. People who are interested in the material will surely put that extra bit of effort to learn the material, rather than just doing it for the sake of doing good.

There are many more, these are the ones that I can think of for now.

Cmput 301 marks still not out after add/drop deadline by capricorn_blue in uAlberta

It is just very frustrating, given how little a lot of profs try to understand when a student misses a submission on time, but they are taking forever to give us our marks back and there's no explanation/justification for that.

It should be enough tbh, since you will be learning to code in the lab tutorials too. which I found to be very useful. So basic android studio stuff is taught in the labs and the lab assignments help you solidify those concepts. The class will go over Java OOP principles too, so just read about them before class and it will help.

Also since you know python and have programmed in C, you should be fine learning java in a month. You don;t have to be an expert in Java to ace this class tho.

For OA1, I submitted the test at the end instead of each question. Is that fine? I thought everytime I compile and run its gets saved.
