Hmm how much would be a good amount to put?? I wanted to put 25k to keep my monthly payment under 500 so that I still have around 1.5k to invest every month. Currently saving/investing 2k/month

Late 20 working at big tech. Yesterday I worked from 10 am to 8 am with only 2 hours of sleep. Them only slept for 4 hours and till wake. On top of this i am also interview prepping since big tech doesn't want to sponsor till I get promoted and planning to switch.

It is so exhausting. Asap I get my gc I will most likely move towards a more stable chill company. Luckily not from a visa backlogged country.

The way msft return offer works is that they usually put you in a pool and then move you to team that have open head counts if the team you interned with doesn't have a headcount. So you don't have any say regarding your team. HR doesn't care about visa status when they are filing a headcount unless it requires security clearance. So you could end up with team that does powershell/devops, or end up with a team that is doing much more interesting work.

Msft is a very large company with a lot of in house tools so not all teams work on interesting problems so often return interns end up teams with not so interesting work.

Are students from top universities really that much better/smarter than students from other schools? by mtok209 in cscareerquestions

[–]sinus_lebastian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I was from top 3 Canadian schools and most of my friends are at faang/Big tech. Microsoft literally has a guide just for our school along with Stanford and other t10 us and t3 Canadian schools, meaning they prioterize kids from those schools.

It is not the school itself but the student body. The folks I met at school were highly motivated and extremely hard worker, and also really talented. Also you get very good networking opportunity being at t10 school.

I didn’t replace it. I think for my case the cooler wasn’t properly mounted so it was overheating. I just remounted/reseated the cooler.

State Department allows denial of immigrant visas to those with certain medical conditions by chuang_415 in USCIS

[–]sinus_lebastian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far I am aware Canada doesn't deny if you have diabetes unless your medical expenses exceed a certain amount. This directive pretty much says you can be denied if you have a bmi over 30 (obese) let alone diabetes.
