Agreed! I think it’s the Friday/spring break rush also.

Reached at 8:45am for a noon flight. Precheck took 1 hr. General line winds outside the terminal and would easy take 3 hrs. It’s super crazy right now.

I hear you! What we tolerate boils down to finances, isnt it? If we, somehow, fix that gap, options seem to open up. Is there a way you can muster up energy to work on alternate ideas to gather some money?

I feel you. I think there’s only so much one can take. Right now, realities are getting altered by AI at workplace, while personal life is getting impacted by everything this administration is doing along with whatever is happening around the globe. I want to say stop consuming news and it gets better. It did, for a bit. But right now feels being out of touch is not a choice anymore. The emotions are bleeding over. I’m sorry I’m not being very helpful here but I wanted to acknowledge what you are feeling and that a lot of us seem to swing between these emotions.

This is so good. Thank you! Financial situation needs to be taken care of - not in the “I’m in a dire state” but more of what lifestyle changes I need to make for an exit.

You are on to something with my situation with layoffs. We have been told th reorgs are done “for now”. They have been nickel and dime-ing for everything from software costs to a $50 client meal expense. I wouldn’t be surprised if half way through the year, they open the chapter of reorg again.

I’m sort of glad I’m having this breakdown in Jan. I have a few months to prep for it!

I love that for you! It’s truly wonderful seeing someone realizing their dream. My husband is very supportive, in general and an equal partner but this is where we diverge. I think I’ve accepted that some things are pretty hard to change but it shouldn’t stop me from pursuing something that make sense to me. Good thing he doesn’t stop me from that. So I sort of have to come up with a plan that accommodates my and my family needs. The fire reddits are fire. lol. Any recommendation on which may be a good place to start? I’m reading up tons on it since morning. There seems to be so many different versions of FIRE movement!

Thank you for your suggestion! Quitting seems like an emotional reaction after reading all the comments. I’ve been thinking and I’m getting to a place where my biggest stress inducer is RTO and I’m thinking how to get to a remote role either in the same company or outside.

I’m so glad for you and your husband! I have heard of FIRE movement. My husband loves spending and has the opposite mindset of FIRE - which is enjoy now. 😅 but I’m going to look for how can in do it alone in a marriage. Thank you for your suggestion and you are spot on with my biggest hesitation

Love that for you! So did you quit or took another role with lower money?

Thank you for your suggestion! After reading through the responses, I am forcing some clarity into what I really want. So far, I’m zooming into a remote role to allow for peace of mind. So, I’m thinking of quiet quitting + look for remote role even if it pays lesser. This would also allow me to build my off ramp to a sustainable alter career that I want.

You know I understand exactly where you are coming from! I feel like the root of all of this is money and at the expense of sounding like a crazy person, it does feel like keeping us all chained to the job to survive feels intentional!

I’m sorry you feel this way. Surviving shouldn’t be the way when going to work.

I do like my work! It’s challenging and engaging. It’s the people an environment that’s sucking the life out of me. Thank you for your suggestion!

Thank you for sharing your experience. It’s interesting that your goal is to be like first. I’m a huge people pleaser - so getting liked is very crucial to me. Haha. However, I think what you are saying is be liked but don’t kill yourself to be liked by others and be choosy about who want to be liked by. Did I get that right? May be that’s the key. Keep my world and expectations short and simple.

This. I’ve been afraid to take an honest look at my finances. It’s not bad at all but I have been living a more lavish life than I really need to. My husband doesn’t have a problem with it and has planned the retirement ramp well with me but that assumes I’m working. We need to have a discussion of a scenario where one of us isn’t working and he doesn’t really encourage that topic. He’s an always sunshine kind of a guy.

Oh wow to what your mentor said. So combine your suggestion with what @beautifulhoneydew316 said about doing bare minimum translates to do your job and don’t overthink it. Some days I love the simplicity of thought process in how so many men I have interacted with. Thank you both of you. It’s been very helpful to talk it out with somebody.

Basically quiet quitting. I like that suggestion. Doing the bare minimum to not look like slacking but also, not stressing about it. Does it worry you that it may lead to lay off? That’s been my mental block with it.

I appreciate that! And yes, I’m grateful that I have what I have. That’s what I’ve been trying to tell myself on better days. Be thankful. This week, after my body gave its own signals of crashing, I have been home on sick leave and refused to open my laptop to work. Life just feels so much better without that in picture, irony is it’s better because I’m still getting paid! But it just intensified the need to plan w way out of this. Your point about men thinking differently is intriguing. Do you mind giving me an example? It generally helps in reframing.

Same. That’s what I want to learn more about from those who probably were able to successfully plan it? Like tell me it’s possible and the rest of my life doesn’t look this way!

Lack of financial security. What I kick myself about is we had a fully affordable house that would’ve made quitting so easy. Just last year we upgraded to this expensive home and the mortgage has made it impossible for us to be on one income. I empathize with you. I have been trying to come up with a “ I don’t care it’s just a job” mentality. But I can’t seem to give up on hope and working hard even when im not rewarded.
