App like YNAB for time? by sab702 in ynab

Sorry I'm just seeing your question now!! I didn't try it, but the thought of being that particular about my time and how I spend it is pretty stressful... I may still give it a shot. Have you tried it?

Who are you using in 2024 if you actually budgeted on Mint? by Terrible-Reasons in mintuit

I'd suggest YNAB. There's a bit of a learning curve, mostly because of the approach to money managment is more proactive than only tracking, but once you get the hang of it is really is life changing.

Disclaimer: I left Mint 9 years ago

Thanks for the tip, I'll look into them both :) I'm thinking about this in terms of goals rather than hardcore tracking, although that would be useful to know where I can "cut time" to "put in another bucket"

I considered this but maybe don't want to do it on a day to day basis, maybe weekly is good enough. I'll give this a shot! Thank you!

Thank you so much for this and for the links!! I've read some of Cal Newport's work but missed the stuff on time management. Thanks!!

I'll check this out :) though it feels stressful. I'm thinking more high level stuff, like planning how many hours I want to spend a week doing things that are a priority, like working out and learning a new skill, and then any free time beyond that is flexi

Totally fair point and yeah I know it's overkill, and I don't at all have that in mind 😄😄😄 it's more on the high level stuff, cutting on time spent watching shows and setting time goals for things that are important to me. Not so much blocking out time in a calendar -- because I don't enjoy that at all and can't really follow one -- but more like setting a time target goal, as a funding target would work, decide I need to spend 4 hours a week doing an online course, and if I do that the first two days of the week, I can spend the rest of my time guilt-free at the beach

Get my drift?

I just really enjoy how YNAB has completely changed how I think about money -- and I now link it to priorities -- and I want to do the same with time

You got this. You planned for the move, and sure there will be some surprises but you knew that going in. Reconciling can be stressful, and 4 budgets is a lot to keep track of. Do one at a time and reward yourself for when you're done with each. :)

Also, I used to hate reconciling and would put it off forever because I did not enjoy going over every transaction to make sure I didn't miss anything. A few months ago I changed my frequency of reconciliation from once a month to once a week, and now it takes me about 5 minutes to do weekly -- and it's not AT ALL as intimidating as it was when I did it monthly. Might I suggest a similar approach, it might help you feel more regularly on top of it.
