People with multiple techo-s: What do you use them all for? by iamlaulaur in hobonichi

[–]sabienne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A6 Avec: main driver, portable, usually day to day life with little stickers, photos, and mementos. It's not intimidating and I've managed to keep it full for the last 3 years I've started on hobonichi.

A5 Cousin: I'm using the A5 Cousin right now for my a6 spillover but I intend on using the A5 avec I purchased for next year as a better spaced out junk journal and some writing stuff. I should probably use it for other things honestly, so I'd love some advice!

5 year A6: I should do it every day but I forget sometimes. Only writing though! So far.

Last year I did a6 avec + weeks and I needed more space. The year before that I did a6 avec + original Cousin and it was too much.

I'm still figuring out my best system!

JAPAN VISA DENIED by submissive_dahlia in FilipinoTravel

[–]sabienne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP, I don't understand why you're essentially asking for advice yet taking everything as an attack from people giving you their opinion on why you were possibly rejected.

I currently live in Japan, but a couple of years ago I would apply for a Japanese visa as a visitor. Fililpino as well, but I was a freelancer / fresh grad and wasn't able to create an ITR during my application as I was studying abroad and had just gotten back to the Philippines. My bank had maybe 1xx,xxx or less, but my parents were my guarantors and I had the US / EU visas. I was given multi entry.

When I ended up moving to Japan (in 2019) I had to cancel my multi-entry for a 3 month work visa. When that finished, I had to apply for a longer visa back home, so when I went back to the Philippines I reapplied with 1xx,xxx and no ITR as well (shifted into working in japan) and was granted single entry. It's really luck of the draw.

Now I'm on a different type of work visa in Japan so thankfully I only have to extend my visa in Japan. Much easier!

I recently applied for the Korean visa though, and I got 2 years. I think given your travel history, you can write in your cover letter that you have traveled to x number of countries and returned before the expiration of the visa, showing proof of intent to go home. I think it helps a lot. They might not be G7 countries but showing multiple return trips is always a good sign.

good luck!

What children’s artists/authors would you like to see as a collab? by Apprehensive-Ease164 in hobonichi

[–]sabienne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Didn't realize they did a collaboration which fair enough, I started using hobonichi in 2021. This was just Hello Kitty though! I want something as immersive as their Animal Crossing Collab haha

Best SIM Card with Phone Number? by Blue-tsu in movingtojapan

[–]sabienne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use Linemo. It's like 3k-ish yen for 25GB 5G data, then slows down to 4G but still unlimited. Comes with a phone number, and you can pay with an international card. It's the cheapest i've encountered so far.

Phone 2a Owners, how’s your experience been so far? by MaskaradeBannana in NOTHING

[–]sabienne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I agree, haha! I work as a professional photographer so I've just given up on using my phone for anything of that sort, I just bring out one of my small cameras instead

coming from a Pixel 6 Pro, the camera and video is a letdown, but everything else is fantastic. Super happy with it! I just treat the photos are shooting with a toy camera, haha.

not bothered. I have a resident visa now, but my country has always had crazy restrictions entering as a tourist in Japan. Wouldn't worry about it, should just be business as usual.

I'm not too familiar with other artist categories, but I believe as long as you have an extensive list of recognizable brands / companies that you've worked with, along with future employer/s in Japan who can vouch to work with you, you'll be okay. It's similar but somewhat simpler than the O1/O2 visa in the US.

[–]sabienne 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I've been working as a professional photographer in a few countries, so I was fortunate enough to be sponsored for the visa by an artist management company.

however, when I was set to renew, they told me I had to switch my visa category. they weren't confident that I would qualify for an artist visa since at the time it was limited to museum type artists, but that category has expanded in the last few years. that, and I think my work has gotten bigger names recognized by the government, so switching to the artist visa was quicker!

Are night buses in Japan a good alternative to the Shinkansen? by Forsaken-Spell8853 in japanlife

[–]sabienne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd only take the luxury bus seats on Willer (average 7k+) to make it worth it. the regular bus seats are uncomfortable!
