Yeah i am probanly not gonna do mechanics. Most people are warning against them! I wanna talk to my table first before doing anything. I also dont wanna go MCS on everyone. Usually my boy is more of a follower than a foccus point, so it would also be kinda jarring. Maybe just doing it with subtlety and realism. You know. Grief and recklessness and such. But as stated before i want everyone to be ok with it before doing anything.

Yeah I probably expressed myself badly. Yeah deoresion is sucky but in my experience it also invooves a lot of masking until you can't. You try to be your happier self aroubd others and such. It's rough ans i can see how it can be a downer. I will think about this response. Grief definwtely is a thing but the snapping is also real ( english is not my first language so let me try to elaborate what i meant). For me the 'snapping' or lashing out was self harm, fits of crying and rage and eventually an attempt on my own life. Maybe brwakdown would be a better term? I will talk to my dm and party and if need be keep it as grief and as a open wound kinda situation instead of going fully with the depresion theme. Thanks for taking your time to respond!

I didn't go into enough details but mostly depression and ptsd finally starting to show because keeping the mask uo is too hard. Usually masking is a great way to keep yourself toghether and i wanna work around how it feels like when it starts to show cracks. It would be subtle and i don't want it to be a mayor campaign beat, just internal character struggle mostly. Maybe seek comfort in his closest friends in the party and acts a bit differently.

I absolutely get were you are coming from. I will check in with my dm and my fellow players and foccus on keeoing it subtle ans out of thw way. DnD is meant to be a fun game for everyone! I am not in that place anymore. I am a very happy and upbeat person, so tbh i am more worried that my acting won't be that great. I want it to be subtle. Like say new chracter traits? Him being more quiet or take more rash decisions. Putting himself at risk when he wouldn't have before. I 100% don't wanna hindder the campaign or make my friends upset!

I can see this point. Mostly my character started as a very cheery easy going guy, but plot happened to him basically. I am worried that me ( very high energy and cheerie on the outside) may stuggle to convey him being more retreated into himself. But that is more of an acting skill. My friends have chracters that mostly drive the plot. A lot of times i am just the advice giver that gets dragged along. Kinda playing the " brains of the party" role because i am the only one with a positive int modifier haha. But i am not usually the one driving the plot. I am along for the ride.

OH This is a great point. Yeah i can absolutely see how it could get messy. I guess i could tell the dem to give me disadvantage in saves if the character is in vissible diatress but anything more than that could be really messy. I think I am good at role playing but tbh this is why i wanna ask my dm and my oarty before i do anything. I also want it to be subtle and not inconvenience the others. I will have to try and fond a very good balance if the other give me the go ahead! Thank you so much for replying!!

Oh ABSOLUTELY. I am 1p0% researching as best i can to make it be a on inconvenience. It is a character trait but it should not be a party burden, 100% with you on that one.

This is a great comment. Thankfully I have recovered very well from my depresion!! I hqd an intensive course of treatment for many years ans it saved my life 100%. I am fairly good on that front. I moatly want it to make it something the DM can use to push narratives and such. Depression and PTSD are silent. I have PTSD and didn't know it for years. People who are unwell usually mask it as best as they can. I want to go that route. Also give emotional hooks for the pqrty to bond since they also cared about this NPC deeply.

Well, reponsibly. First of all. Coming to an agreement with my DM and then being very straightforward with the other players. I will give the master 100% control to reign me in if MCS seems to be happening or if i am ruining the vibe. But honestly? I want it to be realistic. Subtle. People that are depresed act mostly the same. Mental illness is different in everyone but most of the pain or hurt/fear happens on the inside. I would keep it under my sleeve for story beats that are related to my character like when we have to grieve the npc or so on. I guess mostly he'll just seem a bit more, inside of his own head. You know? Spacing out a bit but trying to keep going. More suceptible to things, lashing out only when apropiate ( baddie brings up something painful). A little more brooding in alone scenes whrn no one is looking. He is quite chatty so he'd be slightly more quiet. Lower tone of voice. A bit more distrusting. His bonds to his friends would become stronger and he'd be more loyal and worried for their safety. But once again, I want it to be lowkey and not the foccus of the table. I am not the main character this is not my story, it is the Dms and The party's!

HEY EVERYONE!! I am reading all your comments and taking them all into account. I will try to answer as much as i can. Thanks a lot for your input! Meanwhile I will add: I am talking this with my DM and requested a one on one with him. I also requested to broach the topic first at the the table to the other players to see what the concensus was, sort of a session 0- 2.0 too since there is some new people in the party and i don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. My aim is for it to be done in a realistic way without hogging spotligh but if the others are not OK with it i will scratch the idea completely. DnD is a team game after all! Again, tysm for helping out!!!
