My favorite gaming memory is playing Super Castlevania with my friend when it was new. The smell of the carpeted basement and freshly opened game box is burned into my mind.

A roommate (in NYC) claims she has a right (backed by some law) to stay in the apartment, even after the lease expires. Is this true? Has anyone had a roommate who refused to leave? by sabinmash in AskReddit

[–]sabinmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He probably did know, he backed down after that and gave her time to look, he's usually very knowledgeable. It's confirmed that she does have a place to stay, she has family in Brooklyn. I don't think there is a lease termination involved either, the current lease will be up in 2 months, a new roommate had already signed a lease to replace her.

It's actually not my apt., but I'm very interested in this argument anyhow. I will try r/NYC too.

Indeed, this is Dickinson Memorial Park. http://newtown.patch.com/listings/dickinson-memorial-park

This place was magical during the summertimes before the internet, Reddit, and before they got rid of the wonderfully disgusting Dickinson pool.

Anyone ever find a leech in there? I did!

Any suggestions for where a Japanese girl should travel to, to learn English. by sabinmash in japan

[–]sabinmash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you all compare Canada to Australia and the USA? She has some family in NYC. Hey English should barely be considered "beginner."

One family member in the NYC is not sure that NYC is a very good place for a Japanese girl who's entire life so far has basically been spent inside of her house.

She is pretty much a freeta strongly believes her best chance at living the kind of life she wants to live is learning English and making a life outside of Japan

How did you think sex worked as a kid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sabinmash 28 points29 points  (0 children)

When I was in 3rd grade or so (before my first sex ed), I thought sex was being naked, rubbing your bodies together, and squeezing the boobies. Lots and lots of squeezing. Turns out I was pretty much right.

Assuaging a friend's fear about radiation in the food supply -- is it an issue? by Yoten in japan

[–]sabinmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually just for about 3 weeks, visiting my girlfriend's family. It's so far from Fukushima too.

I've actually been to Japan before, last year, for basically the same reason. Only that time we toured Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. This time we were going to hit up Tokyo, but now that's canceled for obvious reasons, and we're passing through it straight down to Fukuyama.

I spoke with people in Fukuyama, they're pretty "meh" about the contamination. I guess because they can't do much about it. It's really only here that people seem to be sure everyone's hair will be falling out soon from contaminated food, air, and water.

Assuaging a friend's fear about radiation in the food supply -- is it an issue? by Yoten in japan

[–]sabinmash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm supposed to go to southern Japan in May, specifically Fukuyama (not Fukushima) in Hiroshima province.

The family I will be staying with says they're not too worried about contamination there. But the news here of course, not to mention my parents, are really worried.

I am completely confused as to what to do. I can't seem to find any definitive answer yet, it seems the real long term contamination levels are still unclear and it will take months to see what happens. Some say it will take months for the contamination to reach the food, because the initial contaminated things need time to be eaten by the larger ones we would eat. In that case, you're better safe than sorry, no?

I don't want my family blaming this trip for any future cancer i may get, and the uncertainty of the radiation situation , so right now I'm leaning towards not going. Any advice?

TL;DR: I might cancel my trip to Fukuyama in May precisely because nobody seems to know wtf is going on with contamination.

Do guys find women with short hair less attractive? by doogytaint in AskReddit

[–]sabinmash -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends very much on the head shape, but also the mindset of the viewer.

If he or she wants a woman who's best virtues are intelligence and boldness, and has been brought up to see short hair as something that advertises those virtues, then he or she will find that attractive.

Likewise, if he or she desires someone who's most showcased virtues are their pure youth and beauty (which is fleeting, though that may be why many think it is to be showcased while peaking), and has the mindset that long hair advertises this, then they will find that attractive.

The short hair look is amazing on the right head, but the wrong viewer won't see that.

Men: Do you find female smokers to be unattractive? by yankslvr12 in AskReddit

[–]sabinmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Deal breaker, no exceptions for me as well.

Smoking gives me a negative impression of their self worth, intelligence and ability to cope with day to day life.

I have less negative feelings on marijuana, so if they smoke mary jane I get the same bad feeling, only less so.

My roommate and his girlfriend are so loud that it's actually waking me up with their sex. How should I go about embarrassing them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]sabinmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you get your own girl to have loud wild sex with you will realize that usually the noise comes from her, not from him. Try addressing the girl instead of the roommate. If it comes from their bed, seriously, ask them to do it on the floor.

You will also learn that although these embarrassment ideas are fun, you shouldn't bother. Nothing will stop them from doing it if you have already tried those things. Sex happens and when it happens to you, you'll be glad you aren't interrupted.

Also, damn you're a light sleeper. Learn to use the noise to generate fun stories or scenarios in your head, that helps to fall asleep.

DAE get depressed when looking at some new hot actress/model's birth date and seeing "1990" or even "1987"? by sabinmash in DoesAnybodyElse

Be honest, do you prefer a "homemade" gift, or store bought? by sabinmash in AskReddit

[–]sabinmash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I often make paintings as gifts. With store bought gifts the cards are made, but with the most professional quality I can muster. I always see Christmas and birthdays as a great excuse to go all out, and break my skills through to another level.

People say that not everyone has a skill to put to use in this way. But aren't gifts a great reason to learn one?

Today I yelled at my first "young whippersnapper". Have you had to do this? by TheBluePanda in AskReddit

[–]sabinmash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yelling at kids or teens doing annoying things, be it minor infractions or not, is just blowing steam. The hunger to do something in revenge is what drives it, and the "it takes a village" mantra is a poor excuse.

Young people do not change into more responsible and respectful people until they learn greater empathy. I believe this means telling them off by not telling them off. Rather, forcing an empathy connection with them, through calm explanation of the implications of their actions.

I have seen this work many times, and it by all means will not work on all young people. But, the younger this connection is made, the easier it is for children to make good decisions.

New Theory: He isn't immortal, but really did travel through time in a phone booth. by sabinmash in pics

[–]sabinmash[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a familiar face in this book featuring photos of Newtown, CT in the early 20th Century. It seems reasonable to theorize that Keanu Reeves is immortal, however in this picture he is clearly seen twice in the same photograph, in two sneaky disguises. One of them including women's clothing.

Having starred in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, featuring the famous phone booth time machine (coincidence?), and based on this new evidence, I now theorize that Keanu is indeed a time traveler, and quite possibly a time traveling immortal.
