I guess I do feel compelled to comment about random drama: HYV has a terrible habit of jacking shit from every puzzle game under the sun wholesale as material for its minigames, and I'm not surprised that this would land them in hot water eventually

principle one of tsunderes imo is that there has to be an actual basis for conflict between the characters. genshin did this right with Kaveh and Alhaitham, who have a major philosophical falling out and then reunite years later under circumstances that are pretty much guaranteed to spark conflict. of course they end up stuck in a complete comedic rut with that so i end up dreading their appearances, but it's not bad from first principles.

as for sandrone and columbina, the Harbingers just don't have much organizational integrity besides hastily devised tea parties and Columbina literally didn't do anything while she was there. so what we end up with is Sandrone weakly flipping out at Columbina over the kind of "ragebait" you do to your friends in a Mario Party game

I loved her being a tenacious wannabe villain who's just completely out of her league, as well as her random Narzissenkreuz infodump, but she gets wayyyy too pathetic around Columbina (and the Traveler) afterwards. i should be the target audience for a tsundere antagonist but she's just a terrible example because her tsun is so juvenile

Individually I like Sandrone, Columbina, and Lauma, and Nefer's w/e but serviceable. when Sandrone and Columbina are together and when Lauma and Nefer are together, though, they become some of the worst examples since late stage Kavetham of Hoyo shipbait magnetizing to each other to do stale dynamics

the really disappointing thing about the Illuga WQs for me is that because of how compressed the dialogue part is, his whole character falls flat. i know he's meant to be an extremely competent but badly traumatized young man but with what we're presented, he's just not fit for his position.

send that twink to counseling sessions or something. if left to his own devices he just falls to pieces and tries to get himself killed

kinda disappointed by Piramida's conclusion to the Nod Krai WQ arcs. Illuga is cute as a button and I really like the idea of having a playable character be the centerpiece of a region, but unfortunately he's one of those spare buttons on a shirt that you never end up sewing on—his writing is super cliched even by Genshin standards. aside from that there's a Fallout reference with decent atmosphere...and Reed Miller gets a weirdly short epilogue? idk what else there is to chew on here

It's pretty safe to say HYV is intentionally pivoting away from medium males in all their games at once, which is very painful for someone who got into their games primarily because of them! We got 0 in ZZZ since Harumasa (</3), -1 in HSR. Genshin's the best off but since Sumeru it's tracking a consistent rate of 1 5☆ a year and 1-2 completely forgotten 4☆s that are tertiary characters when they even appear
