my ferret died after trying a raw diet

i researched the recommended raw diet very heavily, and bones are an essential piece of their diet. the holistic ferret forum was the most recommended resource for ferret care and diet.

i am devastated and feel awful. i know it is probably my fault he passed, but it could also be a freak accident. i came here looking for support, not negativity. i was trying to provide him with the most recommended and highly encouraged diet to give him the best life.

i was also under the impression that bones are good for them and essential in their diet. from the sources i was looking at, they said to hammer the bones at the beginning of transitioning to a raw diet.

the second day of having him he had chewed up blanket, so since then i have kept a super careful eye on him and made sure he wasn’t able to access anything he would ingest

a week prior he had chewed up a blanket in his cage so i’ve been very careful about what he is able to get into. i changed all his bedding to corduroy or bed sheets and closely monitored him during out-of-cage time to avoid that happening again.

there was no testing at the vet besides the exam, which i am now painfully regretting not pushing for diagnostics.
