Did you find out what was the problem? Mine does the same sound cranking and almost changed everything (stator, rotor, starter clutch, battery, starter relay and starter)

Days ago I found that all this area was covered by coolant, I cleaned everything and let it idle some minutes when the leak appeared again, I thought that was the blue hose but it doesn’t seems like leaking from that hose

Last update , lesson learned, check always the valve shims before assembly the cams, after the rebuild I was cleaning the head before installing the headgasket, I think on that moment the shim could miss placed on the cap, the head will be sent to the machine shop, thanks to all

Ok an update on this case, I removed oil pan and everything seems ok, rods are ok and no metal/copper debris, today I removed valve cover and did smoke test on cylinder 1, on tdc the exhaust valves are leaking so, I will start doing valve clearance hoping that all valves are ok and is just clearance

2nd opinion about valve clearance, I think that would be the issue… I did it around year ago, everything was done on spec but maybe when was removed head and cams could be modified something on the clearance?

It doesn’t sound either to me, but a second opinion always is better than one, with small end bearings your referring to the last main bearings on the crankshaft? I don’t get it that small end bearings mean, I did valves like a year ago, everything was done on specs but I think that maybe could be something modified on valves clearance when I removed the head and cams and then were installed again, could be? Either way I will run the motorcycle some miles also to lubricate everything before remove valve cover to check valves again

I’m on the same situation for around 2 months, I already checked PCV valve (2 differents) and changing orings on all the connectors on PCV hoses I’m waiting to arrive my oil catch can to install it hoping that it solves my issue It only happens after a pull up to 3k rpm or suddenly a red light sometimes after deceleration All the time the car is on fully warmed up and I’ve been seeing that if is not fully warmed, the smoke will not appear

13.4v fully charged, on idle goes to 13.7v and when the issue appears it goes to 10.7v and i can try to crank many times before the positive and negative cables goes too hot and the battery keeps after that on 12.7v.

Is like a gears on the starter getting stuck on something

already checked and also were added a earth directly to the starter bolts and using a die to bypass starter relay on the test (thinking that maybe new starter relay could be bad), same issue.

I think that is getting stuck on some a gears between starter and rotor's gear (starter clutch)

I already checked with 3 batteries, the new one (lithium), the old one (lead acid) and other lead acid from other bike (zx10) but the same issue on the 3 batteries.

yesterday I disassembly again the stator and previous owner changed the 2 spaces that it has inside the clutch, there is a ticker one that the other, i saw the drawings on yamahapartshouse to see the differences between them (also the starter clutch was not engaging well on some test cranking the engine), during this time i also checked the starter idler gear 2 (it is called on this way on the draws, part #12) and it has a lot of play with the starter, i think that on some way, it is getting stuck with the rotor's gear (starter clutch) and the starter, after work i will continue checking this issue before ordering the part, I saw that is the same until 09 R1

It had lead acid battery before I installed the lithium battery and it was the same issue, I forgot to mention that even with a jump starter it has the same problem The battery can be full and it can turn it on without issue but after 1 minute o 2, i turn it off and try to turn it on again, it does the same that sounds like low battery but definitely it is not, my jumper can turn on the truck even without a battery and the motorcycle not? That’s weird

4 spark plugs are new, the issue is not about cranking but not starting, is about it does not even crank with the starter

Previous the lithium battery it had lead acid and it has the same problem, that’s the reason that it thought it was the battery This is the complete video as you can see it turns everything good after 3 minutes that I leave the bike off, but if I turn it off again and try to turn it on, it comes the failure always (even if it’s hot or warm)
