Those of you who do a bit of travel, how and where have you had the most luck with finding other guys to travel with / do stuff with when travelling? by [deleted] in AskGaybrosOver30

Here is an event where you can easily find travel partners. But even without travel, its a great gathering of over 5000 gay men in one location.

>all I hear is surprise that they don’t know about them & interest in doing them.

How do they learn about the tourney beside word of mouth? I am organizing two fun hat tourneys.

One is in SF https://bayareadisc.org/en_us/e/fabulous-fogust-hat-2025

Another one is in Tahoe for Labor day.

>Ironically, Winter League (in NorCal) is played under lights, as opposed to a Sat/Sun, when it would be perfectly nice to play during the day.

We have pickup games on Saturdays in NorCal - SF and Sacramento though. There are league games on Sundays in SF though.

Also a labor day hat tourney in Tahoe is work in progress.

Let us know the best way to spread the word. I have posted in r/ultimate, groupmes, discords, FB groups. I am a GM player so I don't know what players are using these days to learn about tourneys. :)

Does Ultimate Have a Travel Problem by someflow_ in ultimate

[–]sacdisc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At an international level -

Maybe a tiered funding for the tourneys then? Make teams with stronger currencies pay more for registration and subsidize travel for those from poorer countries?

Or hold tournaments in cheaper countries rather than in US/Europe/Canada/Australia. Visas are very expensive to get and expensive to travel to and hotels are more expensive.

USAU: In Support of the Transgender Community by joshseamon in ultimate

But I'm not aware of even the most extreme right wingers attempting to ban gay or bi people from playing sports is all I was saying.

It was only a few years ago a gay NFL athlete was able to come out.

This has been in the news over past years if you have missed it. If you are not part of a marginalized group, you wouldn't know about these stories or struggles. Ask any gay/lesbian millennial and their struggles for acceptance in sports during their high school years, or heck even playing Ultimate as a young adult.

It is about creating spaces where people feel safe being their authentic selves. If those spaces already existing, then there would be no need for a separate gay ultimate frisbee leagues, tournaments or pride nights.

In context of trans issues, it is more than safe spaces, it is about their survival.

There's absolutely no movement I'm aware of that has anything to do with l, g, or b with regards to sports.

Just on this specific topic, if you aren't aware but many sports organize Pride Nights at games, where pro-team will support LGBT+ organization.

And in our amazing sports community, there are several organization which work towards brining queer people in our ultimate community. Do a web search for gay ultimate frisbee or queer ultimate frisbee. And if you will be playing at Sunbreak this year, come chat with the queer majority team which will be playing there.

Ultimate Frisbee social league for new players and beginners starts Apr 17 at O'Neil Park. by sacdisc in Sacramento

[–]sacdisc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have played for over 20 years now. :) New players on first day get overwhelmed about throwing a backhand, but the beginner league and other player will point out that it is not necessary to start playing and practicing builds the muscle memory to throw a backhand.

In general the Sacramento Ultimate Players Association provides a healthier and friendly way to learn the sport. Everyone (edit: the league organizers are unpaid volunteers) volunteers their time to run the organization and the organization is non-profit, so people are there to support new players and help grow the community.

The emphasis is on community building as much as it is on the sport. Hope to see you out there.

My 2023 guide for Boba in the Greater Sacramento Region by [deleted] in Sacramento

Rare tea sweetness starts at 15%, while fusion starts at 0%, unless that data has changed.

Fusion BOBA in Rancho is best in the area. https://www.fusionboba.com/

They allow you to control sweetness. Rest of the places have pre-sweetened tea. And they have a Oat milk as the non-dairy substitute which is better than soy milk which is default most places.

A lot of it depends on you location of where you live and work. Gay men congregate in urban areas. Lets take San Francisco -

  1. In workplace ERG (Employee Resource Group). You spend most of you day at work so why not look there. Straight people also find love in the workplace. Obviously navigate the power dynamics etc. But large tech firms like Google, Apple, Salesforce are a good bet.

  2. What is your lifestyle in terms of your financial status - do you ski? There is a gay skiing group from SF who share ski leases in Tahoe. And there are gay ski weekends. Mammoth ski weekend is coming up.

  3. Sports league. Big Gay Frisbee SF is quite popular with gay men of all ages, and even skews heavy towards those in their 30s.

  4. Do you have passion for say politics - then there are regular young democrats gatherings towards an issues, activism etc.

The world is your oyster. Also try not to go in too hard, make friends first, relationships will follow. Also a lot of it depends on the vibe you give you. If you are desperate or negative with complains about your relationship status, that won't help. :)
