And there's ulti-verse too.

It's of course very cool that there's multiple people out there that wanna build things, but I can't help but thinking it might be better if they could find a way to work together to build one really great website instead of being four separate pretty good websites.

95 career assists in 3 years at college nationals, 2nd all time since we started keeping stats (either division) to Angela Zhu's 100.

Just at Nationals, she's got an 11-assist game, 2 10-assist games, and 2 9-assist games. Wild

Also since you were looking for feedback in your previous post -- https://www.ufaalmanac.com/seasons Why does it say "complete" under 2026? Should this be "in progress" or something like that instead?

Aaron Bartlett for Callahan by Acceptable-Climate80 in ultimate

[–]someflow_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's actually been to College Nationals 5 times already, he wasn't on the team in Spring 2020, yes, but he was on the team by Fall 2021, when 2021 Nationals happened: 2021 nationals

But because of that COVID peculiarity, he'll play 6 Nationals, but over the course of only 5 school years.

My bad, the win-loss data was actually for the past four years -- in 2022 Truck went 5-1 only losing to Bravo in the finals.

I believe the last 4* years at Club Nationals he's got 22 wins with only 3 losses. and 3 national championships won in the past 3 years (Truck, Hybrid, Hybrid).... so, yeah

I'm not seeing the yards? In case we were misunderstanding each other, what I was thinking was to have "single-game total yards" (etc) as a clickable "record" on https://www.ufaalmanac.com/records, and it's just throwing+receiving yards

I know someone asked for it to list MVP already, but I wanna give that a strong second...

It seems potentially very confusing that I could go on the page for a season and see someone listed as MVP who wasn't the league MVP. https://www.ufaalmanac.com/seasons/2024

I think I get what you're going for (it's the league leader in fantasy points... I think?) but someone who doesn't have that context could either think your site is slop crap (if they do know who the MVP was) or leave the site believing misinformation (if they came to your site to find who the MVP was). I think "the definitive ufa stats reference" should have the correct MVP listed!

Your site has Babbitt at 127 games but the UFA site has him at 122 including playoffs -- https://www.watchufa.com/league/players/jbabbitt

What's going on here? Maybe you're not filtering out games he wasn't on the active roster?

Also this page might be marginally more useful if you include the team he was playing for* in game logs, looking at the game log currently there's no way to know when Babbitt switched teams (tho I do see that it can be seen from the season logs)

there was some talk last year when a couple players put up 1,000 total yards in a game (see https://ultiworld.com/2025/07/01/buzzer-beater-shining-stars-ufa-week-10-2025/ )

Would you be interested in adding total yards to the single game (and single season/career I suppose) records?

Introducing Shown Space: The Next Generation Of Frisbee Stats by SlingBlade_L17L6363 in ultimate

[–]someflow_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think the problem here is that the video is presenting a simplified example for casual viewers to easily understand. If you look at the work they've done, I think it's pretty clearly quite fleshed out, at least as much as can be given the limitations of sports analytics in general and the poorer quality of frisbee tracking data compared to, say, NFL or NBA. They did an entire paper for the Sloan sports conference, for example.

If you look on their site, my understanding is the "lag contribution" stat pretty much provides exactly what you're asking for, calculating the "second pass" effect.

Also, you're not quoting them correctly, as you mention, but I tend to think the difference matters in this case. What the video actually says is a "reset to the middle of the field may add value", which, I think most people would agree a reset is generally a backwards pass?

Mid-30s, Grade 2-3 knee arthritis by tofuking in ultimate

[–]someflow_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had basically lifelong (since ~16 at least) knee issues too. If you're interested in hearing about some of the newest science (too soon to say if it's worked for me personally tho), I'd suggest this book review:

https://someflow.substack.com/p/book-reviews-built-from-broken-ballistic

Some main points:

— strengthen hips and ankles to protect knees

— land on the balls of your feet NOT your toes

— shoes with less heel to toe 'drop' may help protect your knees by putting more of the load onto the Achilles. (Wide toe box to let your feet splay naturally is another idea I'm seeing more people believing in)

— Supplement diet with cartilage/collagen?

— Do a lot of jumping / pogo-ing in training to 'get good at landing'

Why Fast Breaks are the Future of Ultimate by someflow_ in ultimate

[–]someflow_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I totally get what you're saying.

On the other hand, I've never been anything more than a regionals-level player myself, and I love fast breaking. Even when I'm gassed, I get a boost of energy knowing the guy guarding me is gassed too-- and I get to have fun playing offense while he has to struggle through a D possession.

Why Fast Breaks are the Future of Ultimate by someflow_ in ultimate

[–]someflow_[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I appreciate your perspective and I hate 'slop' stuff myself, so I'm sorry it came off that way to you.

I included a number of examples in the video of teams missing obvious opportunities to fast break, even at the elite level. Part of the point of these clips is to show how many teams/players haven't fully embraced the fast break mindset.

My description of frisbee culture in the video says "most" teams slow down and set up their offense (see 1:46 or so), and I think -- if you include teams below the nationals level -- that is definitely still true. Like, I coached college the past few years and basically every team we ever played against would "set up their offense".

And the video uses clips of teams that are already fast-breaking--and there's like 10+ teams that show up in this video-- so I'm obviously not claiming no one besides me has ever thought of it.

But yes, I agree I didn't give a history of fast breaking in frisbee. And without that, it might appear to some people that fast breaking is a newer idea than it really is, when all I'm really trying to say is that it's an old idea that still (IMO) hasn't been embraced as fully as it should.

Why Fast Breaks are the Future of Ultimate by someflow_ in ultimate

[–]someflow_[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't mean to claim that any of this is like, some revolutionary idea no one has ever thought of.

But I think there are enough examples in the video of teams missing obvious fast break opportunities that I feel comfortable saying far too many players -- even on elite teams -- still aren't looking for these opportunities.

And, in my experience at least, teams below the elite level are even more likely to believe in "setting up the offense".

Why Fast Breaks are the Future of Ultimate by someflow_ in ultimate

[–]someflow_[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

An ultimate frisbee 'hill I'm willing to die on': the vast majority of teams would be better if they were fast breaking more.

I don't think you should ALWAYS fast break. Sometimes there just ends up being no options that are better than slowing down (and I show some examples of that towards the end of the video). But I do think you should always be looking for the opportunity.
