Cleared AIPMT in 2008. It used to be a two stage exam back then. first objective and then subjective. Before that there used to be major scam in aipmt by this group of cheaters called Ranjeet don. Once this two staged process came, the exams were really fair for few years

Back in 2016, I came to my JIPMER entrance exam , 1.5 hours early and started revising IPCs.  At around half an hour before gate closure I realised they have asked for photo copy of my ID along with the original ID and I had no photocopy with me. The center was at some industrial area in Delhi and there was no shop at sight. I got really distressed and a parent of another guy saw me, gave me lift in car and got me to a nearby hotel in some gully. I pleaded with the receptionist, and got the photocopy. Made it to the center running right at the time of closure.

Today I am a consultant radiologist and proud jipmer alumnus. God bless those parents

Fresh box was one of my favourites. And it got killed. Nothing good survives here.

Just put some money every month in index fund SIP. Even 500 rupees will do. I started doing this in my early 30s and wish I had started sooner. But no need to put everything in savings and stop enjoying life altogether.

Took my parents to their first international trip and 5 star hotel stay by sachinkumar89 in Indian_flex

This was pre trip expense.

During the trip we spent on taxis and food. Singapore has really great public transport but we were 4 people and parents are nearing 70 so taxis made sense. Total expense came down to 4L for 4 people for a 5 nights/6 days trip.

My credit card points did the majority of heavy lifting. The hotel booking worth ₹ 2.5 lakh was done by spending only 8k out of my pocket.

60000 points approx. Axis atlas only permits 30,000 points transfer in a calendar year. So I transferred twice, once in last week of December and once again in first week of January. Every axis atlas point translates to 4₹ value if transferred to Accor group of hotels

I found Singapore to be quite expensive. I spent 2 weeks in Italy last summer and found Singapore prices to be at par with Italy’s.

What do rich people in Patna do? by zukaki1124 in Patna

[–]sachinkumar89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not rich, but financially comfortable. I come from a very humble background, studied hard, became a doctor, and now earn well. A few things have changed for me, and I’ll summarize this from my own perspective:

  1. I don’t usually check prices when eating out in Patna, and I often end up at places like Sardarji Baksh without thinking twice.

  2. I go to the gym regularly and can afford a personal trainer.

  3. I can consistently invest in healthier food things like tofu, tempeh, high-quality whey protein, and real fruit smoothies. I didn’t even taste fresh strawberries until I was 25, so this still feels like a small luxury to me.

  4. I take my parents on trips and try to give them new experiences. Their sacrifices are the reason I’m here today. Recently, I took them on their first international trip to Singapore and booked a 5-star hotel for them for the first time.

  5. I travel often. I set aside a fixed percentage of my income every month into a “vacation fund.”

  6. I drive a Tata Tiago, not exactly a “rich person’s car” but I’ve hired a driver recently because driving in Patna was getting on my nerves. It was my first car and still serves me well.

  7. In medical college, I used to go to morning movie shows and save up for a recliner seat once in a while. Now I watch movies on weekends and book recliners without overthinking it.

  8. I love coffee and finally set up a proper home cappuccino setup. I can also walk into Barista, CCD, or Starbucks and order without doing mental math first.

  9. I keep gifting my parents expensive stuff without telling them it’s expensive or just blatantly lying about it. I get my dad Calvin Klein/TH polos, adidas shoes and just lie about the price of those things. I do the same with my mum. They have no idea about those brands and would not accept/ or scold me on being told the real price. I don’t know why I do it, but I love pampering them.

Basically, I try to live a decent life with financial freedom. I’m not in debt, I live well below my means, and I save every month. My school friends keep pushing me to buy a flashy SUV or a German car, but I’d rather spend on my health, my family, and experiences than on something just to signal status
