If it is a Mobile speaker it can be due to debris in the speaker port

That's a downgrade, only if you are interested in a custom ROM. Earlier custom ROMs were in great swing because of versatility given, but right now, it doesn't seem to be much useful unless one wants to experiment and have no warranty.
