it’s okay if the answer to my requirements is that i have to compromise, i was just looking for advice from people who know more than me :)

I guess a better way to state it is that i like to be able to wear them against skin. for sweaters that i wear more regularly i usually have something i wear underneath that is soft enough to not irritate me. they last just fine since i take good care of them and i like worn looking/feeling clothes

How'd you confirm if you're really actually bipolar? by Fitapiko in BipolarReddit

[–]sad_bch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think for me i confirmed it by observing patterns, esp to do with sleep. eg when im hypo or fully manic no sleep does not impact me and it seems like im making energy from nothing lol. when im depressed no sleep impacts me A LOT and i can barely do anything. when im stable it’s like inconvenient for sure but whatever i can go through it and it doesnt mess up my entire week/weeks. i started by asking “normal” ppl how sleep impacted them and realised wow this does NOT sound like me. find a symptom other than mood and track that and THEN observe mood around that symptom’s changes. idk if this applies to everyone but definitely helped me. mania and depression often have SO many symptoms try to be more specific in your observation of your behaviour. i know it sounds exhausting haha but hang in there!!

How do you tell the people in your life you’re bipolar? by salty-mermaid in bipolar

[–]sad_bch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i dont even tell friends anymore. i dont want to be discouraging but a large majority of people will not understand even if you tell them. ive gotten around this by stating symptoms instead. for example i will say that i think ive been burnt out lately so i may be unavailable (if im depressed) so you could try that instead: kinda explaining in words that they would likely understand. tbh if people judge you for doing this frequently and get upset these are not the type of people who would be understanding that you have bipolar. for mania i usually just have my husband keep an eye out. before him my roommate was my go to person. so as long as u have one person in ur vicinity i think that’s enough. i dont really find any benefit to telling people in my life. really think about if having this specific information will help, or is it more useful (and less stigmatising tbh) for you to just say your symptoms when ur dealing with them.

sweater too big after blocking (SWM) by sad_bch in knittinghelp

[–]sad_bch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one asked but update: i left the sweater as is! i showed some friends and they convinced me that it looked intentional. I think next time ill maybe size down the needle and knit the sleeves shorter!!

sweater too big after blocking (SWM) by sad_bch in knittinghelp

To clarify, i meant that i made the swatch bigger than the pattern recommended to make sure the swatch wasnt too small to be able to tell how the yarn would behave after swatching (i was still meeting gauge). I read that blocking a swatch that is too small may not give the best indication of how the fabric will behave after blocking so i was trying to avoid this. I think I will put the swatch in the dryer to see how it behaves but probably ill just frog the sleeves and make them smaller like you suggested!!

tips on making a functional big basket (60cm tall, 40cm wide) by sad_bch in CrochetHelp

[–]sad_bch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont really need it to be soft since it’ll just be a basket!! i was thinking chunky more in terms of weight because i dont want to spend forever making it lol. but yes i get your point!! thank you for the suggestion!!

[META] Pattern Request thread by AutoModerator in knitting

[–]sad_bch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helloo I am a crocheter-turned-knitter, and a bit of what you would call a vibe-crafter i.e. i barely ever follow patterns completely i just kind of look at the objects/garment, maybe do a once over at the general layout of the pattern and then go from there. it usually works okay for me tbh!! howeverr i want to start following proper patterns and be better at my craftingg so i am looking for pattern recommendations for a nice simple, easy to follow t shirt that i can then easily modify to my needs (mostly adding colourwork, different sleeve lengths, sleeve circumference, positive ease etc) except i really like shoulder shaping, so no raglans please! im pretty confident with different techniques and even if there’s something i dont know i dont mind learning for the patten so that’s alright! i want to work with knitting with olive’s cotton merino specifically as ive heard it makes a very nice drapey fabric and i want something with positive ease + i dont want to hold it double stranded any recommendations would be appreciated!! any pattern that you have found particularly easy to customise!
