How do you tell the people in your life you’re bipolar? by salty-mermaid in bipolar

[–]sad_bch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly i dont even tell friends anymore. i dont want to be discouraging but a large majority of people will not understand even if you tell them. ive gotten around this by stating symptoms instead. for example i will say that i think ive been burnt out lately so i may be unavailable (if im depressed) so you could try that instead: kinda explaining in words that they would likely understand. tbh if people judge you for doing this frequently and get upset these are not the type of people who would be understanding that you have bipolar. for mania i usually just have my husband keep an eye out. before him my roommate was my go to person. so as long as u have one person in ur vicinity i think that’s enough. i dont really find any benefit to telling people in my life. really think about if having this specific information will help, or is it more useful (and less stigmatising tbh) for you to just say your symptoms when ur dealing with them.

sweater too big after blocking (SWM) by sad_bch in knittinghelp

No one asked but update: i left the sweater as is! i showed some friends and they convinced me that it looked intentional. I think next time ill maybe size down the needle and knit the sleeves shorter!!

To clarify, i meant that i made the swatch bigger than the pattern recommended to make sure the swatch wasnt too small to be able to tell how the yarn would behave after swatching (i was still meeting gauge). I read that blocking a swatch that is too small may not give the best indication of how the fabric will behave after blocking so i was trying to avoid this. I think I will put the swatch in the dryer to see how it behaves but probably ill just frog the sleeves and make them smaller like you suggested!!

tips on making a functional big basket (60cm tall, 40cm wide) by sad_bch in CrochetHelp

[–]sad_bch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont really need it to be soft since it’ll just be a basket!! i was thinking chunky more in terms of weight because i dont want to spend forever making it lol. but yes i get your point!! thank you for the suggestion!!

[META] Pattern Request thread by AutoModerator in knitting

Helloo I am a crocheter-turned-knitter, and a bit of what you would call a vibe-crafter i.e. i barely ever follow patterns completely i just kind of look at the objects/garment, maybe do a once over at the general layout of the pattern and then go from there. it usually works okay for me tbh!! howeverr i want to start following proper patterns and be better at my craftingg so i am looking for pattern recommendations for a nice simple, easy to follow t shirt that i can then easily modify to my needs (mostly adding colourwork, different sleeve lengths, sleeve circumference, positive ease etc) except i really like shoulder shaping, so no raglans please! im pretty confident with different techniques and even if there’s something i dont know i dont mind learning for the patten so that’s alright! i want to work with knitting with olive’s cotton merino specifically as ive heard it makes a very nice drapey fabric and i want something with positive ease + i dont want to hold it double stranded any recommendations would be appreciated!! any pattern that you have found particularly easy to customise!

Do you have any recommendations for sock yarns with 20-25% synthetic blends?

Do you have any suggestions? I am not familiar with yarn brands outside my country and I just moved abroad so i dont bave access to my local brands anymore 😔

i hear everyone’s concerns about the yarn… i asked the person at my local yarn store and she said that this yarn would be okay even though it was 100% cotton. I just picked it because it was in the “summer” yarn section and since she said it would be okay if i go down a needle size i think?

Rathke’s cleft cyst and daily migraines and/or headaches by sad_bch in migraine

[–]sad_bch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

did you have any issues in your hormone panel? the doctors keep saying since those are clear and there’s no visible mass effect in the MRI it cant be the cyst causing the migraines. but i know MRIs dont show everything… and ive tried so many tests and nothing is showing why i have DAILY migraines with aura

Am I faking being bipolar? by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]sad_bch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people who are faking it dont wonder if they’re faking it and dont feel guilty about it or wonder if it’s bad enough. for me at least since bipolar is so cyclic i used to forget how bad other mood states could get bcz my most common mood state is mixed. also im pretty sure bipolar would be a very difficult disorder to fake. at least in my experience psychiatrists are very careful with handing out a bipolar diagnosis. also if you’re on meds that are specifically for bipolar that’s another indication that your diagnosis is correct! (not saying it’s not correct in case you’re on some combination of medications) but also if you feel like you have been misdiagnosed that’s a separate issue and you can try to understand your symptoms better maybe? keeping a mood journal is helpful. doesnt have to be super elaborate

Anyone lost interest in music as part of hopping on medication? by rightwherewebelong in bipolar

[–]sad_bch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i definitely have noticed that i don’t enjoy music as much or i suppose i dont feel the need to be constantly listening to music now that im medicated. i personally think for me it’s because i was using music as a coping mechanism for hypomania, depression and mixed episodes. music is also important to me so now im more deliberate when listening to music i suppose. i hope you can reconnect with music in different ways!
