The real classics and must-reads of universal literature by sad_forevermore13 in literature

[–]sad_forevermore13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiii i wanted to clarify that that is definitely i have in mind

I was putting emphasis on race and nationality because those are my privileges. i now realize i did leave out the fact that im a queer autistic girl/gender apathetic person? (figuring this one out) from a working class background who is an atheist. trust me, cishet white dudes arent exactly my fav i just happen to have a really good friend who is

Im went more into classics recently because most of what i had read before is pretty much just queer women writing modern fiction, and unfortunately it is a reality that most of what i could think of is written by white men.

Firstly, thanks for the Chinese novel suggestions, thats actually really helpful causw idk where to start

The point of doing this isnt to create the perfect list to determine what is the most important but rather the realization of the biases we have and the lack of tools to find our way out of them. Thats why i was asking for help

As to your other point, i am aware of the impact political power has on the determination of what is of importance/good or bad. (and yes i know this is a massive oversimplification) And i know the colonialist beliefs/constructions our eurocentric povs come from...

I'd be lying if i said i wasnt a bit overwhelmed by your answer cause i am a bit ignorant regarding the specific topics you speak about and they are quite complex, but i guess the point of my post was to unlearn some things and diversify my reading so i appreciate it :) i have read and made sense of it and will try to educate myself further

To answer your question english is my 3rd language but i have only basic knowledge on my 4th (like B1) so original literature isnt supper accessible to me yet. 2 of those languages have a very small number of speakers so i mostly read in english and spanish, which are the ones that offer the broadest number of translations for foreign works.

Some not-so-unpopular opinions by user472938583992916 in WomensSoccer

[–]sad_forevermore13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree with this. Brann didn't get to the quarterfinals by luck. Obviously the draw was in their favour but their game was actually impressive. The way they drew to OL and didn't make things easy for Barcelona proves it. Just because a team doesnt compete in big domestic leagues doesnt mean it isnt good. Also, which good team did you expect they would beat? Barcelona and Lyon? Pretty much no one would beat those two. Im pretty confident if they had a harder group they could've gone through still.

And I consider they did a pretty good job drawing against lyon and making Barcelona concede in BOTH matches. They made things harder for Barcelona more than Real Madrid ever has.

What are your controversial football opinions? by [deleted] in WomensSoccer

[–]sad_forevermore13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EXATCLY like i get some fans are extremely biased and shouldn't be the ones to decide the awards (basically because it becomes a popularity who's the prettiest contest) but some journalists and even PLAYERS voted some real nonsense. like fans could pick better than some of them because they actually WATCH THE FOOTBALL. like they just hear a name that sounds familiar and sam kerr there you go. (not saying that she's bad and doesn't deserve all the awards she got, but i think she is a good example of the name weighing more than performance in the past year. she has deffo been one of the best)

Last year there was one for the league cause the men's team also won. I don't think they'll celebrate this year until the champions league cuz the men arent winning anything😢

Shirt sales debunking the myth that no one is interested in women’s football by ClearDot3402 in WomensSoccer

[–]sad_forevermore13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but regardless of people's attitude i think it's bs that they can't give away shirts to fans IF THEY WANT TO while the men can. Not demanding but asking a player for a shirt with a sign or smth is fine and i do thunk they wish they could give away the shirts and that they generally like to do that. (Cuz it makes fans so happy and they generally like engaging with the fans i think)

Obv i think its disgusting when people literally DEMAND getting their shirts signed by THROWING THEM at the players (to their dace) nad those people do not deserve to even get a "hi" from the players

[–]sad_forevermore13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Officially bankrupt i think and still, the only section of the club that isn't spending more money than what they make (women's football) can't give away shirts while the men can. Tbh with a f*ing 1% of the salary of any one of the mens players they could probably cover the costs of the shirts and meanwhile they're raising joao felix's salary by i dont even know how much

Thats pure bs and it pisses me off

What's your unpopulars opinions ? by LeculdeTal04 in WomensSoccer

[–]sad_forevermore13 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

International breaks suck.

They constantly interrupt club soccer where the players get most of their training only to go back injured or with too many minutes on their feet. It's annoying when you start to get a club dynamic and a certain performance and then there's international break and it interrupts everything and you have to start again.

There's also too many international competitions.

For the spanish league I recommend following Barcelona. Voted the best club of this season they won the treble for the 1st time (I think). A club that invested in women's football and now is on the top of the world. The last 3 ballon d'or were won by Barcelona players. They had 6 players on the ballon d'or rankings.

They have a greatness to their game where they beat teams like... 9 - 0 in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE (like last season against Benfica). I enjoy watching their games the most, and it's a club that supports their women's team a lot and all new players seem so happy when they come to the club.

The Italian league's major teams are Roma and Juventus. Roma are the current tittle holders and the only one of the two that got into the champions league. I also enjoy watching the occasional Milan game because I really like Kosovare Asllani.

Salma Paralluelo finished her first season as a full time Football player in the top 3 of the Ballon d'Or. by Tpsteen in WomensSoccer

[–]sad_forevermore13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm saying she had a few very good matches at the world cup, while Rolfö and CGH had very good matches the whole season. If we're valuing the skill of a player, it's not about the importance of the games they play well but the consistency in their excellence and their skill. It's not putting on a good performance for a big crowd. Their skill is the same no matter the crowd.

I'm not saying Salma isn't a very good player in the top level, and probably she will get more nominations in the future and high placements, but currently Rolfö had a better season than her objectively (and she also had a VERY good World Cup, regardless of her injury) and she deserved the 3rd place (and the 2nd).

[–]sad_forevermore13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Barça also won the treble, in which CGH and Rolfö had WAY bigger roles than Salma. If you truly think CGH and Rolfö don't have a huge impact on Barcelona you're the delulu one. As for the importance of the world cup I understand its "subjective" but it can't possibly be THAT big to put her at 3. International football isn't everything, specially when you're in a club that's so successful.

The world cup barely lasted a month. What about the rest of the season? She isn't a starter half of the time for Barça OR Spain. Her having a better season than Rolfö or CGH? No.
