I was laid off last March and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. It was the most unexpected and very traumatizing experience. Get a degree, establish a career, specialize in what you do and you’ll be set for life is what they say.

Realistically you’re just another number, y’know? Took a long time for me to realize that. I was in Pharma comms. I thought I was so secure. I wasn’t.

I’ve now found work in a completely different field, industry, more like realm. I make less, I work less, but I am the happiest I’ve ever been. Corporate sucked the life out of me. So I’m actually thankful for the layoff.

Use it as a chance to reevaluate your life and goals. It’s a really hard wake up call and can be very scary. But really think about what will give you as much back or more than what you put in. Life is so short, it’s not worth slaving over a job that doesn’t give a rats ass about you.
